"Well if that's true then the niagara falls would have eroded it's way through the whole earth by now and cut it in half!"
Ok, I *know* this is wrong... but I just realized that I don't know why, exactly. I mean, duh, the earth won't be cut in half, but I'm not sure what keeps all those large waterfalls from eroding their beds down to more reasonable levels when they've been around for millions of years. Is it the composition of the bedrock in the area?

For the simply fact that waterfalls are not millions of years old. I can't remember exactly, but I believe Niagra Falls is in the area of ~12,000 years old(??). Since the last ice age, at least.

They have been eroding. They used to be bigger. I suppose it wouldn't occur to our young creationist that maybe the Colorado River has been at it a lot longer than the Niagara River.

so far my two favorites are: "You can't tell the age of a tree by looking at the rings. A tree has no idea how long a year is!" and the one abouve what Hovnid said about the speed of light (c+60/mph )

My 5 year old daughter thinks that the sky is blue because that is her kid sister's favorite color and she always gets her way!

here's a good one:

"Well, you are right about one thing, I didn't really read what you wrote. I read like the first five lines and it was BORING."

and from the same person in a later post... this one is a real gem:

"Why don't people just give up on evolution? After all the testing and whatever else, there is still no definite proof. I know you probably hate my guts, but your mind has been imprisoned in a huge plan spawned by the Devil. I know you are thinking "This guy is full of s*#$", but I hope you find the truth soon. I used to believe the way you do, but once I found the actual truth, everything changed for the better. I can see straight through all these attempts for Satan to get more followers. But anyway, people should stop waiting for other people (scientists) to provide them answers and instead search for the answers themselves, which is in the Bible."

This one, to quote Lewis Black, "Makes my teeth want to turn around and eat my brain"

That reminds me of my favorite review of The Beak of the Finch. It was roughly "This book wasn't what I expected at all. Instead it was full of boring information about the finch."

They expected information on the rapture perhaps?

Heard from the pastor of my former church (and from a myriad of creationists):
It's obvious that Noah's flood is true. Fish fossils are found at the top of every mountain.

Which is, of course, a blantant falsehood. Now if the top of the mountain is made up of sedimentary rocks deposited by a shallow sea then it might have some fossil fish on its top.

Someone really should give that pastor a copy of St. Augustine's writings. :-)
