Post Christians say Gould is in hell

I was just perusing through some of the posts in the "forbidden" section of the baptist board when I came across this <a href="http://www.baptistboard.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=000222&p=" target="_blank">discussion</a>
about whether or not Stephen Jay Gould was in hell or if he made peace with God before he died and went to heaven. I was even agreeing with post-it until he made that comment that he would expect vetuperative language about a dead person from an atheist and not from a christian. This is the worst kick-em-when-there-down attack on anyone that I have ever seen, especially from those that call themselves righteous. It burns me up even more that I can't send them a rebuttel because thier forum excludes atheists.

I wouldn't get too worked up over it. If you can't respond to them anymore, then why even bother reading that tripe?

Whenever I hear Christians gloating like that, I always try to remind myself that it is THEY who are throwing their one and only life away on an inhuman myth. What a terrible way to go through life, having to believe the awful lie that wonderful people such as Gould are burning in Hell. The irony is that they sort of create a hell on earth for themselves by holding such beliefs.

Is it not they who are raking him over the coals? Is it not they who are sending him to the flames? Is it not they who are Gould's Devil? He is their enemy, and they're not done with him yet. It's posthumous castigation which is directed towards his supporters.I'm sure we'll do likewise for Billy Graham when he croaks.

How rude.

Everyone knows Gould is in hell because he was Jewish.

The fundy vengeance and evil behind their declarations of people being in hell after they have died makes us atheists look good indeed.

Even if we will feel great personal joy at the passing of a religious cretin like Billy Graham, we just don't believe in some engine of pain and destruction to torment them in death. Our lack of belief in hell thus puts us on a higher moral plane than christians.

Christians actually pay a great price for their belief in hell, though none admit it. The price is, that they are shown to be very nasty haters who get joy out of other's torment.

Christianity is indeed a moral pit behind a smiling mask.

Don't foget that there is a long tradition of Christians claiming deathbed conversions - they did it for Darwin, Paine, etc.

If you can't out argue them when alive, wait until they are dead and can't refute you.

cheers,
Michael
