Someday I'm going to have a replica of the Ringwraith leader's sword, and a Klingon bat'leth, and a pony...

I don't own a gun, but my father-in-common-law has several: some as part of his collection, some because he is a farmer and shooting things is part of his job. I have helped him with pest-control, i.e. shooting rabbits, hares, possums etc. He'll only let me use the .22 though, as the other ammo is too expensive for a "townie"! As far as I'm aware he's an atheist, as am I, and is not at all violent.

He also has several very sharp knives, which scare me more than the guns!

HR

PS In NZ all guns and ammo must be in secure locations at all times when not in use. Handguns are illegal unless you're in law enforcement or a member of a pistol club (or a few other circumstances).

PPS There are parts of NZ where there is some sort of gun in practically every household, but there are very few shootings.

Thumbs up

I had the opportunity to buy a WW2-era bolt action rifle, so I did.
Yugoslavia "acquired" thousands of german KAR98 rifles after the war, modified them, greased them up and stored them away.
The rifle is in mint condition.
I bought it more as a collectors item than to have a firearm, tho I have gone to the range with it.
And - I don't consider myself a violent person.

I have never owned a gun, and don't imagine I will in the future.

However, I've spent most of my life studying, practicing and teaching violence. I believe that violence is a fundemental part of our humanity, and that it is a reasonable and effective tactic in many situations. I do, therefore, categorize myself as a violent man.

Violence is the last resort of the incompetant. The competant resort to violence far sooner.

Used to own a .22 but got rid of it a couple of months ago - it hadn't been fired in at least 10 years and was cheap when my dad bought it for me bout 30 years ago so I figured it wasn't worth anything even on E-bay. Threw the stock and barrel portion into the dumpster one day and the bolt and clip in about 3 weeks later.

The only gun I now own is the muzzle-loading rifle that my G-G-G-Grandfather Joseph carried in the US civil war.

No guns. I live in a city on the west coast and don't even know anyone that owns a gun except for a few people who got them while living in smaller towns in other states.

Hubby has a deer rifle, a shotgun, and a .357 Magnum. I load the pistol when I am home alone and the first chamber has a scatter bullet so I'll hit something even if I am nervous.

No gun. Nor do I ever plan to. My mother was a nurse in an emergency room, I've heard much too many gruesome stories from her involving gun shot wounds, so I'm afraid to own or use one. Although I will admit that I am a bit interested in them.

I wonder if this is representative or if those that own a gun have the courage to let the world know it and those that do not are afraid to let those with guns know they are unarmed?

I don't own a gun personally but my dad has a fairly large gun collection inherited from his grandfather and father and I expect that someday I will own at least part of it. I've been hunting a couple of times and shot at a firing range once. I'm not a great shot, but I know enough to not shoot myself in the foot.
