Why are you getting upset with me? Is it because I'm doing exactly what you say people should be doing...checking sources of information? Or is it the fact that I am presenting what I found so others can compare what you provide with what I provide and draw their own conclusions? You may want to quibble about these facts, but one thing you can know is that those children did not have to die. They died because of the belligerence and arrogance of people in our government. I don't care to rehash the whole Waco fiasco. However, David K. isn't exactly my example of Mr. Integrity. He could have allowed those children to leave at any time. Why didn't he? Sounds like a Saddam tactic. Use them as a psychological shield. So cool your jets! (My ex's ranch is just 70 miles west of Waco. I am not unfamiliar with some of the religious/political fruitcakes down that way.) If the media had done it's job and walked to the Waco compound in defiance of the governments illegal orders to stay back three miles the children would not have died. And your verifiable evidence for this belief is....?????? How does it matter which figure is correct? I must disagree. It makes all the difference. That's why I added the "onwar.com" URL...not that their figures are necessarily more accurate than anyone else's; but it does at least lend a less biased figure to the mix. So now you can defend their numbers and denounce anyone else's. Exactly where do I denounce anyone's figures? Of course, having spent a few years actually involved in the "fog of war," I suspect I gained a few insights not available to everyone...after the fact. Did our congress declare a war as is prescribed by the constitution? I think you better read this closely: http://www.cs.indiana.edu/statecraft/warpow.html If the government is allowed to indoctrinate our children with their pledge to nationalism as they are doing, I think we can expect less freedom in our future. I find it difficult to accept that Americans have felt less free since 1892 simply because the PoA was introduced into our pluralistic culture. However, here are the kinds of people that I believe would use the pledge in the manner you fear. The fact that our current government eagerly accepts the support of such organizations should not come as a surprise to anyone who has been paying attention to the activities of radical religious right for the last 20 years. http://www.aclj.org/info/patrioticslogans.asp [ July 20, 2002: Message edited by: Buffman ]
|
