National Day of Prayer and Fasting
Senate Concurrent Resolution 155, passed on November 14, designates November 27 as a national day of humility, prayer and fasting.
Here's the text. I apologize if this was already covered. |

Arrrgh.
Sometimes I think Heinlein was right; just a little off on the timing. |

If they make it a national holiday, I'll invite the neighbors over, grill steaks outside, and drink beer on my day off. The smell of perfectly seasoned steaks should drive those fasting nuts.
Actually, it’s rather funny that they put it just before Thanksgiving. Saving up for the most gluttonous food day of the year. |

My hope is that one day, the newspapers of the world will collaborate and print a story on the front page that states, "Attention People of the World: Prayer is a FRAUD!", and then proceed with an article detailing how study after study ad naseum has shown that prayer DOES NOT WORK. It is wishful thinking at its worst. Maybe the article could suggest that people spend the next six months praying to a thumbtack, and the following six months after that praying to "their god" and compare the results.

Cute how they put it in the middle of Church State Separation Week. Oy.

Those prayer experiments have been done. Read about a dramatic one in the article linked here:
Nothing fails like distance prayer and psychic healing The National Day of Prayer is a yearly annoyance, usually held in May. This is an extra day, and it includes fasting. What's next? Self-flagellation? I see they conveniently scheduled it for a day when many people are faced with airline food. |

November 27 is my birthday.
I will NOT have it degraded in this fashion! (two lines and 3 spelling mistakes. I shouldn't type when I'm cranky.) [ November 20, 2002: Message edited by: Babylon Sister ] [ November 20, 2002: Message edited by: Babylon Sister ]
|

Who all's for hacking into the senate server and changing it to the "National Day Of Prayer and Fisting"?
