This is disgusting...
hey, i'm new btw, was introduced to you guys during that 'be prepared!' phase... *chuckles thinking about it*
anyway, i saw this and i knew this was the place to put it, the first two paragraphs is what im talking about, the rest delves into some other anti-war stuff, you can skip that if thats not your thing. oh, and a kinda icky picture at the top too... just so you're warned, looks like some girl with an infection. http://www.scoop.co.nz/mason/stories/HL0304/S00093.htm and for the super impatient, this is the relevant part excerpted: "There is a US Army chaplain in Iraq named Josh Llano, hailing originally from Houston, who is tending his flock in the desert outside Najaf.. He has in his possession a 500-gallon pool of pure, clean water. He is well aware of the fact that our troops have been suffering a water shortage due to Fedayeen attacks on Army supply lines; many soldiers have gone weeks without bathing, and have often been forced to go thirsty, because of this. Llano, who describes himself as a Southern Baptist evangelist, sees this deprivation as an opportunity. ''It's simple," he said in a recent Miami Herald article. "They want water. I have it, as long as they agree to get baptized." Said baptism involves listening to one of Llano's hour-and-a-half sermons, followed by a rite which requires another hour of Bible quotations, before the troops are allowed to bathe and drink. "You have to be aggressive to help people find themselves in God," says Llano." if these people are the moral crusaders.... we're all !#$%ed.... |

This is heading off to General Religious Discussions, where I think you may find a thread on the subject already in progress.

If the story is true then why hasn't the chaplain been court-martialed yet? I hope the army doesn't allow this crap.

Even most xians I know, and I know a lot of raving fundies, would tend to agree that such conversions don't mean much, because people forced into conversion under duress will often say and do anything to get themselves out of a bad situation. Most of them aren't even genuinely "saved" at all.
