<strong>I -- in one way I'm sort of glad for this ruling because it does defray (ph) the left as to where they're coming from. They really have not only a desire or neutrality as it relates to God and the public square, but they are filled with hostility towards people of faith, and whether it's Christians, Jews ...

Pretty powerless God, apparently, that he loses all power and influence over an entire nation because some silly little group of humans voted him out of a pledge. Must be those iron wheels on the chariots they're riding....

Exactly, it clarifies that we are "one nation, indivisible!"

Cool

Beige Davis gets the "Oooo, I'm scared" award for most bland condemnation.

Quote:
California Gov. Gray Davis said he was "extremely disappointed." He called the Pledge of Allegiance "one of our most profound human expressions of American patriotism."

Just for variation, I'd like to throw in a more reasoned reaction from "Eric B" as posted on the Baptist Board:

I don't know why we even worry about this. The majority of people in this country are not even saved, and their use of God's name means little, except to keep everyone thinking we're good and religious without even repenting or really thinking about what God's will for our lives is. (And to keep Christians thinking that we've created this great kingdom of God on earth). Like Michael Horton (Alliance of Confessing evangelicals) says, we spend too much time pushing for an "amorphous American deity", and that's precisely what that reference to Vishnu and Zeus is talking about. If anything, it looks like this country is being stripped of its superficial spirituality, and this is something people who really want to see God's name truly hallowed should applaud.

My disagreement with his religious beliefs aside, obviously, I think he makes perfect sense from a Christian perspective. I paticularly like the last sentence.

I hope more Christians will come to realise that.

So tell me "Jerry!" Are you admitting that America was a secular nation until 1954? If so, then you better rethink your claims about what our Framing Fathers intended and a few of you radical religious members of the Christian Taliban have prostituted to increase their own bank accounts.

And in all this everybody forgets that the change to the pledge was made in 54, in a climate of fear when nobody would have dare protesting this "add-on" for fear of finding himself in front of a rogatory commission under suspicion of communist and anti-American activities!!
