Yes - it would outlaw alot - like the Republican's beloved death penalty, the encouragement of corporate pollution and so many other things! Sanctity of Life my ass - only if you are white, rich, and male are you afforded the "Sanctity of Life" privilege!

Great ideas for bumper stickers
I do not claim that life has no value ... of course it does. But to make everything sacrosanct, no exceptions and no questions asked ... thats just like creating another religion ! - Sivakami. [ January 24, 2002: Message edited by: Sivakami S ]
|

I have always seen the Pro-Life movement as a continuation of the ideas that women are good for nothing more than their offspring and if a woman should die in childbirth - so be it, there is no loss - I believe Aquinas said that, although not a verbatim quote.
Women are still devauled in this country and in this world. And what's worse is when other, "well intentioned" women are against having the choice to use contraceptives or the choice to continue a pregnancy. It is an incredible strain on a marriage or a relationship to worry about always getting pregnant. And although the pill does lower my sex drive it is such a relief knowing that if I take my pills consistently the likelihood of getting pregnant is pretty slim. Thus far it has worked. I also think it pretty much sucks that a man can get a prescription for Viagra paid for by his insurance, but I can't get birth control pills paid for by the same insurance. Thank goodness for Planned Parenthood!! Brighid |

Brighid, the sooner you and I realize that our destiny is to simply bear as many offspring as possible before our uteruses fall out, the better.

Testify Sista!! But what worth does a woman have if her uterus falls out?
Thank goodness I am not a moron who believes I need to be a baby making machine. Just because I can get pregnant doesn’t mean I SHOULD get pregnant, over and over and over again until my womb literally falls out! I equate sanctity of life in accordance with quality of life, and no just in a material sense but in the emotional investment I (and my husband) can make in our children. Child rearing is damned hard work, but also very rewarding. But if you have so many children that you cannot devote the necessary time and attention to them so that each one has the opportunity and ability to grow up to be a happy, healthy, productive human being what is the purpose? And if in the process you destroy the only body (and mind) you have I think … well, I think it’s wrong. Brighid |

That "keeping women in their place" aspect of reproductive repression is very obvious in the conservative litany.
They don't actually come out and say it, but underlying their stance is the thinly veiled opinion that women who enjoy sex should be punished. "Well, those floozies who fool around and get pregnant should just accept the consequences of their actions, shouldn't they?" I always think, oh great, just what we need in this world, more little people who feel like they are a punishment for somebody, rather than a gift. |

A lot of pro-lifers forget that being "pro-choice" does NOT mean advocating the death of all unwanted children. We are simply advocating the CHOICE.
I wonder that people could forget this. |
