Observant Jewish women wait seven days after their period ends and then go to the mikveh. After that, one can resume marital relations. It's basically a matter of ritual cleanliness. Women are considered ritually unclean during their periods and men can become ritually unclean if they have relations with ritually unclean women. If you're ritually unclean, you can't go to synagogue. Immersion in a mikveh works as a sort of reset button, rendering the women ritually clean again.
Or so the tradition has it.

Wait seven days AFTER the period ends to have sex? I have a difficult enough time being patient DURING the seven (more or less) days of my girlfriend's period.

In India one hindu poetess converted to Islam. She announced that she felt so safe under a veil, protected from the lustful eyes of men. Of course, since she is 82 years old, it might have something to do with her conversion.

Good Good, lol. My mother-in-law is about 70 and still loves to get dressed up in bright red colors. I love her for it and hope that the old flirt never changes.

Sad to say, there really are some women whose aim in life is to be the world's #1 doormat. Some pass up a relationship with someone decent in order to take up with an abusive thug; others convert to Islam.

There are men like that too, they just don't have such a well-developed social script to follow in doing it. I supposed it's all about working on something you can really excel at.

I have recently looked at several (20?)testimonies of women who converted to islam. About half of them converted because they met a very charming arab man in college who seemed to have all the answers, and was exceedingly nice to them before the marriage.
I have concluded, after many years of thought, that religion exists because people want a simple answer to the basic question "What should I do?" The Muslim answer is thou shalt pray five times a day, fast during one month a year, etc... What Muslims have that Christians don't is a lot of intricate detail, spelled out in the Qur'an. Women who convert to Islam WANT to be told what to do. They WANT to be told that their purpose in life is to become baby producing machines in submission to their husbands. And, as with Christians, they buy it, hook line and sinker, without careful consideration of ALL of the ramifications of their beliefs, or even knowing all that is required of them.
Of course, I could never believe, even if there was a God, that She would give her holey word to a pedophile like Muhammed. When he married Aisha, he was 53, and she was 9. That means that he had sex with a 9 year old. That's just sick and wrong, and a good example of what can happen if you let somebody else decide for you what you should do.

Why does Islam insist on covering women? As it is generally known, the control of human sexuality is an ominous weapon in the hands of despots, just realize that during Communism, there was not a single picture of a naked person in the films or in any press, no pornography, with the exception of medical literature. (The Christian could envy Communists their success.) It brings me to the idea that Arabic women must be very physically attractive-seldom do I see them since they don't live here, neither do I remember seeing unveiled Arabic women in any film. It is my impression that Spanish and Italian women, despite there could be some more beautiful women, are physically attractive to a great degree and this is why religion was or still is deeply ingrained there-the church had to concentrate on these regions in the past more carefully. Does it sound ridiculous? It would also implicate that I should consider visiting USA, where religion is still rampant.
