Post Women converts to islam

I don't understand them. I definitely don't. Of all Abrahamic religions, which are all full of insults to women, Islam is the worst.

On one of the boards I visit occasionally, there is a section on Muslim families, majority of posters are female americans converted to Islam. They keep throwing in arabic phrases, talking how wonderful Islam is, etc. There was one post recently which truly puzzles me, here are some quotes:
Quote:
The thing is my dh and I have had a total of 2 discussions on the niqab. He is not ready for me to wear it.
I think it's more along the lines of: None of his friends wives wear one and he doesnt know how they will react. And, we live in the USA, so he's afraid I'll get TOO much negative attention, pehaps even be threatened.
I guess I'm just naive or something. I really don't care what anyone says or thinks.
Quote:
It also feels kind of empowering. Like "I have something under here that is SO precious, and you're not allowed to see!" or "na-na-nana-na!" he he he
What kind of thinking is that? What is driving those women to accept to be completely covered and to find it "empowering". Empowering how?
I've read lots of apologetics from women on Islam and requirements cocerning dressing, and I just don't get it. They claim that to cover themselves is to be liberated, to be appreciated as persons and not only based on their looks. However, I don't really get the impression that women are considered as persons in Islam. Why is testimonial of 2 women witnesses equal to one man?

Any explanations for this? What is making women embrace those same restrictions that women elsewhere are fighting hard against?

Alec I don't claim to understand Islam but I know that the female who is 100% woman hums when she is barefoot pregnant and in the kitchen.

She hums because speach is left brain.

She is barefoot because idolatry is left brain (ego is left brain).

She is pregnant because the womb of man is the right brain (the womb of man is the soul of man).

She is in the kitchen to show the right brains' nature to nurture.

Now, having had the courage to write what I did I must add that no female is 100% woman because all are human and to the same extent that females are human are they not woman. To arrive at this I call our humanity our masculinity and place this opposite to our womanity which is our effeminity. Accordingly, to make an increase in our humanity will be at the reduction of our womanity.

To show better what I mean by that is to say that our right brain is our non-rational brain and our left brain is our rational brain. If this is true it is also true that to the same extent that we are rational are we not non-rational and so the more rational we become the less non-rational we will be, and, therefore, the more masculine we become the less effiminate we will be.

From the above follows that public exposure is for the enhancement of our humanity while at the same time it is intimidating towards our womanity and, if this is true, the reverse will also be true.

What I think they are doing is in effort to liberate their womanly gender identity they curb the exposure of their masculine gender identity.

The censorship of human (masculine) qualities in females is universal around the world in one form or another and in Islam they just take it a little overboard, or alot, I would say, but really, if it makes them hum, what do we care?

Another thing to add is that effeminate females reproduce masculine males and masculine females reproduce effeminate males (or girls only) and that is just how genetics work. At least, that is how it works with animals and we have know that for a great many years.

The above is actually in the bible.

I think we can safely say Amos is 100% right brain according his latest crackpot theorem.

Count me in as another extremely puzzled person. I've seen people embrace religion for financial or politcal gain, but choosing a religion that is clearly insulting to the convert

Has there been any survey done to show that these poor women are even more mentally and emotionally disturbed than the average convert less misogynisitic(sp) religions?

All three abramic religions (we are sooo lucky there are only three) are full of relics from a barbarian past. More in particular, they are the invention of the male part of the society.
This results in all these silly and outrageously insulting rules and regulations governing women and their behavior. And , as you can see some women even find this kind of threatment "empowering". This lady must be masochistic or what??

Hey Thor,
glad to see someone else from Hong Kong here!

I don't know whether those converts are more disturbed than the rest of the population. Most of them seem to be converts from christianity.
Some more pearls of wisdom from that board:

Objections to Christianity & reasons to convert:

Quote:
WHy do we (as a christian) not practice the old testament? Why are we overlooking all the things it asks us to do, such as wear a scarf Corentians Chapter 3 verse 11. or wash after our periods??
Does one need religious book to tell her one should wash before, during, and after periods? Eeeeewwwwww....

Quote:
The Quran is stated to be a miracle itself. It was brought to the Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) during the ages when literature was very, very poplular. Just as Jesus (pbuh) performed his healing miracles in an age when medicine was highly valued.
Quote:
This is one of the blessings that Allaah bestows upon His believing slaves.
Who would voluntarily consider himself/herself a slave?

Quote:
We do not approve of rebellions against our Imams and rulers, even though they may act unjustly. We do not pray against them, nor do we refuse to obey them. We hold that obedience to them is part of obedience to Allah, as long as they do not command the committing of sins. We pray to Allah that He may guide and forgive them.
OTHER QUOTES:

Quote:
Please don't take this in an offensive way, but I just dont get the "i don't believe in God" approach to life. Gases and energy could not have created man... and the miracles of reproduction. Only a higher power could have made the perfect balances in nature and the perfection of night and day, the weather, and our own biological composition.
Quote:
To NOT believe in God, is to believe that these evil people will get away with these evil crimes without so much as a slap on the wrist. Those that ARE caught, have civil rights under the USA legal system which protects them from even being talked to in a negative way! Dont you know how badly the victims' family would like to "have 5 minutes alone with" the criminal!

Well, I believe that the punishment the criminal receives from Allah FAR outweighs *anything* I could do to him. Even if they turned the guy over to me and I could slowly torture him until the day *I* die... still doesnt compare to what Allah will do to him. (God willing)
Quote:
In Muslim countries modesty is of most important, have you heard the saying "When in Rome do as the Romans". Well, if the laws were not enforced that all women, including non-Muslim women were required to cover their heads and dress modest, there would be many women going to those countries to create problems. Women who would be half naked walking around for shock value.
Quote:
Well, to prevent Islamic countries from being a lawless society, and inviting prostitution from non-Muslims etc. those countries have laws. And if any non-Muslims do not wish to respect those laws they can find some where else to visit.
Quote:
I choose to wear hijab and abeya. Though many of my co-workers (muslims) do not. It is a matter of religious preference. I choose to dress modestly and cover my hair because the Holy Qu'ran teaches that I should. If other women choose not to, it is up to them. Western women, or even Asian non-muslim women certainly aren't required to dress according to Islam.

Having said that, let me add that although women are free to choose their own mode of dress, muslim women who choose to dress Western style are generally viewed by the male public as being "not nice" or "dirty" women, not suitable for wives, IFKWIM.
Why was this "or EVEN Asian non-muslim women"? WTF?

Quote:
To answer your question, No, Muslims and Arabs living in the Middle East cannot live in peace with the Jews. That was fact long before the Jews fought their way on to our land.
And beleive it or not, some of them even try to justify the Taleban:

Quote:
"First, Mary, I think that you mentioned that perhaps the reasoning behind the Taliban limiting education to men was because there aren't enough jobs to go around for both men and women. With all the wars that have gone on, there must be some households without any men. Wouldn't the women need to support the family in this case? Or is there a different support system in place for them?"

There just aren't any jobs. There are muslim charitable organizations all over the world set up to help widows and orphans.
I guess I'd better stop if I don't want this moved to rants section. I would really like to know why?

And I thought the ultimate in liberation was to wear no makeup, short hair, a flannel shirt, and blue jeans -- and thus often get mistaken for a teenage boy

Thumbs down

I found a website a couple months back called www.thetruereligion.org. It has featured a few articles since 9/11 about many Americans, in particular American women, converting to Islam. It's beyond my understanding how anyone (male or female, especially in Western countries) could convert to Islam. I read one conversion story from an American woman who converted to Islam and became such a fanatic that her husband took their two children and left. Her only comment was that if her husband and her kids don't convert to "the one and only true religion" then they would burn in hell for eternity. It doesn't get much more disturbing than that.

I just had an eye opening dicusion on another board about Islaam. Before now I was rather indifferent to Islaam and viewed it as any other minority religion in the US that gets persecuted by the majority. I have even defended Muslim women from Xians on other boards before (I now realize that those women were very liberal Muslims)

2 women basically got into a fight over who was the "True" Muslim (one was liberal and one covered her face). The more fundamentalist on actually at one point defended the stoning of women convicted of adultery in Nigeria as "just". She also brought up the whole " a man needs 4 male or 8 female witnesses to be convicted of rape. A woman only needs a pregnancy to convict her of adultry."

The same question could be asked about women who actively seek relationships from death row inmates. Or even those women on that new Bachelor show.
