I think "Oh those human beings. They are all alike" comes much closer to the truth. But skeptics posting on this thread would never agree, apparently.
Well, I've posted on this thread, and I think what you're saying is basically correct (of course, all human beings are not alike, but there is a lot of commonality among us). But wasn't that a point made earlier on the thread? I.e. why, if Christianity is supposed to do what it claims, do christians so often behave much like the rest of us? Paul said "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." Is that doable, or was Paul posing an impossible challenge? Or does it just work on some Christians? (I've known some that do their best to meet this goal). Are we experiencing sampling bias, i.e. this board tends to attract Xians that this transforming hasn't renewed as of yet? Their one hope is that they are morally superior to the Christians, whose demise they believe will help save the world. I most certainly don't hold that "hope", and I'm sure most of the other posters on this thread don't either. I don't feel morally superior to most Christians, and I don't wish for the demise of Christians. And that's a strange charge coming from a Christian, whose holy book commands Christians to be morally superior to the "world". And that same book teaches, when the world is finally "saved", the demise of all unbelievers is soon to follow. You're very good at lumping your opponents all together and making sweeping generalizations. Why do you do this? Does it make you feel superior? |

OK, I see. So you get to say Christians are hypocrites and treat you horribly, but you don't have to give any examples at all. Not all Christians, but hey, if that's what you want to say... Still, my point is that I did not start this thread to dig up who said what to whom. If you wish to start a thread wherein specific examples can be given, you are free to do so. Is that correct? No. That's OK. We're rather used to double standards ourselves. No doubt from the small majority of Christians to whom I referred. I'll take that as tacit agreement. You can take it any way you like. That's not what I said you did. Then what did you say I did? You well know I think. No, actually I didn't know you thought. But now I'm curious about this mysterious "list" to which you refer. Guys, when do I get to see the "list"? Mageth? Rhea? Anyone? Have you all seen it before me? What do I have to post to see the "list"? |

It's kinda like Schindler's List, except we refer to it as "Schrödinger's List". I think the cat ate it. |

My list is written in invisible ink, so it's not very useful.
Rodorth, I have never been able to figure out whether you derail threads ON PURPOSE or through WILLFUL IGNORANCE or through such an extreme sense of perceived persecution that you actually think you ARE answering the question. Listen up. I'm going to say this again. I think the actual topic of this thread is obvious to the most casual observer. Try to actually LISTEN for a moment, instead of coming charging in what whatever persecution you assume is being heaped on you today. I wrote, pretty clearly, I thought, Quote:
Now, please make note again. If YOU don't fit into #1, then you can hardly argue this point. It doesn't apply to you. The shoe doesn't fit. If you further don't claim 2 and 3, what the hell are you arguing for? Why do you insist on cramming in onto your foot? I will accede that I should have written "some christians" to be perfectly accurate. But then again, I had never before met a single christian until you who claimed that Jesus did NOT tell them to be kind to one another. But now that you have said you don't fit into the category, then I can see that you are not being hypocritical because you are NOT claiming moral superiority over non-christians, you aare NOT claiming that being a christian gives you more tools for being moral and you are NOT claiming that your love for Jesus makes you desirous of being more moral. So this doesn't apply to you, obviously. Your manner is exactly consistent with your interpretation of christianity. Of course, since most other christians disagree with you, there should be plenty of other people to talk to after you leave the thread and stop arguing about what hasn't been said. |
