The New Republic Rakes the Vatican Across the Coals
Unfortunately, the article is not available online; if it were I would love to post the link.
Has anyone read the January 21 edition of the New Republic? There's a loooong, fascinating book review in which the Catholic Church's position during WW2 is examined; the results are not in the Church's favor, naturally. The author of the article, Goldhagen, counters many of the common arguments in favor of Pius XII's innocence. The Church couldn't speak out against the Jews? Then why did they speak out against the Nazis' program of eliminating mentally disabled people? They couldn't oppose the Nazis? Some Danish Protestant churches did, and suffered no harm. Anyway I was wondering if anybody had read this article; and if so, do you have any thoughts on the matter? |
