Default Decline in christianity hurting organ donations?

What do you think about this?

See article here

What load of junk, IMO. There are many atheist organ donors, and there are many Christians who wouldn't do it.

Thumbs down

What evidence does this guy have? None, so far as I can see.

Just because he is a doctor doesn't make what he says any more valid or true! What a daft article, I'd expect better from the BBC.

In the BBC's defense, Huginn, they're just reporting an "upcoming event" that debates the issue, not validating the point of view. Though they could have found a skeptical voice, I'm sure. The argument itself sounds completely posthoc though, and I doubt it'll get much better in full.

Wasn't cremation probited for catholics until Vatican II just because they expected that you'd need your body intact at the second coming? If anything, christian sects are more into preserving corpses intact for no good reason than more "pagan" religions.

I know that at least some Christians are even nowadays against cremation, because they think that it is against the idea of bodily resurrection. They think that cremation is suitable only for atheists.

I don't think that religiosity (or lack of it) is in any way connected to one's willingness to donate organs.

Most atheists I know are organ donors (maybe we could do a poll). I am a living organ donor, having donated a kidney to a friend...nobody in his church or family offered to be tested.

Yes, but the headline is "Loss of faith hits medicine", rather than "Debate examines body and death in contemporary culture".

The debate isn't mentioned until nearly halfway down the page!

There is actually a basic error of presumption here.

While Christianity may be declining in the UK and western Europe it is on the increase worldwidec generally.

Although ststistics are hard to produce, Bible Societies conservatively estimate that around 60,000 people join a Christian Church every day.

I was strongly against organ donation when I was an xtian. Although I've procrastinated getting the sticker on my license since then, just because I always believee that there wouldn't be enough of me left to bother. I like my motorcycles very fast
