Pro-choice Georgians, Awake!
Lucky, lucky, lucky us!
We have some interesting prefiled House Bills awaiting us for the upcoming State Assembly. Let's take HB1 (yes, number 1!). Filed by Franklin of Marietta, it H.B. 1: Quote:
Ahh, the vision of dragging women who've had miscarriages through the legal system to be sure they've not had an illegal abortion. What, that's not a logical outcome? Well, how about this one--a mentally-handicapped child explaining her rape to a jury. Let's figure out how a mentally-handicapped teenager can give informed consent before she can have an abortion (H.B. 23 by Walker of the 71st district). We wouldn't want to perpetrate an offense against health and morals, would we!? Of course, in addition to the fetus's rights it also has a "right to know" who it's father is! H.B. 18 by Bridges of Cleveland. But only if the mother is unmarried. Heads up, Georgians! Call your newly (re-)elected representative and tell them what you think. --tibac [ November 22, 2002: Message edited by: wildernesse ]
|

I think that's a hoax. I didn't see anything about it on NARAL'S website. And I think HB1 is really a bill to exempt certain items from sales tax for a limited period of time. I'll have a hunt around & see if I can't find a link.

They're not going to get away with nebulous language like "rights of the fetus." If they leave that language, it's going to be up to the courts to decide what those rights are.
"Hello, US census. How many people in your household, including unborn fetuses?" |

yahwehyadayada,
Wildy is refering to bills which will be introduced into the Georgia Legislature in the 2003 session. Her information comes from the prefile information filed with the clerk of the house. BTW, This is the text of the NARAL email that allerted Wildy to the future bill. Quote:

I received this info from a NARAL action alert, and my links in the OP are to the Georgia State Assembly web site (or did you not see them in the OP?). These are prefiled bills for the upcoming term (2003) for the Georgia House. I'm sorry if that wasn't clear from the original post. I hope that I don't have the reputation of posting hoaxes and urban legends on infidels. --tibac |

Wildernesse, please accept my apology. I don't think you have a reputation of posting hoaxes, & I'm sure noone else does either.
I was madly searching some other sites for info about this, & I was so upset that I did overlook the links in your OP. I get ahead of myself when I'm upset. |
