Post babies are sent from god?

I've just been in an argument with my mother about this. She says that god is in control of giving parents babies. What I wonder is how ethical is it for god to send babies to african couples with aids where they'll only live for a few monthes before dying. Or the babies who are aborted?

Answer ~ It's all a glorious part of the Mysterious Plan (tm).

So, unless you know everything and are, therefore, God ~ return to your seat and just get with the program.

Damn ~ I even scare myself sometimes.

ax, she probably believes that because of Bible passages that say "The Lord closed her womb" and "The Lord opened her womb". (See Gen 39:31, 1 Sam 1:5 etc) That does rather imply God is in control of when people have babies to those who believe it to be true.

Helen ~ I don't recall a Gen 39:31 and the 1 Sam 1:5 was referring to Hannah, not *all* women ~ and this needless and heartless act by God sure made her bitter and sore.

That God character sure acts like a dick.

My mistake...I meant Genesis 29:31 "When the LORD saw that Leah was not loved, he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren".

Regarding Hannah: later in the same chapter (1 Sam 1:20) the Bible says Hannah conceived and bore a son.

Anyway, I don't generally argue with people who make assertions about God's character or anything else. They evidently have made up their mind already.

Thank you for pointing out I gave a wrong reference; I hope you enjoy your Sunday!

Care to tell the class the apparent reason she later concieved and bore a son?

I sure hope so, because we're going tomorrow. My nine year old is very eager to see it.

It looks to me that everything after the initial post is pretty much either GRD or Miscellaneous, so let's see some on-topic forum-related posts if this thread is going to be preserved here.

thanks,
