Right... so it was a totally pointless reference and not a relevant reply.

Well, not exactly, tronvillain. The argument for argument's sake was actually implied by the comment. You remember the sketch. The abuse comment was partly to reinforce the monty python references so as to underline the futility of the initial intent.

You should stop trying to analyse things that you have too much difficulty understanding -- as shown by your above comment -- and just break a few things.

Looks like a flimsy rationalization to me.

As all you can say tronvillain is one line empty harangues that show little perception, you don't mind if I don't respond to your stuff, do you?

Actually, that would be doing me a favour. Does anyone else want to get in on this deal?

No, and if this topic doesn't get back on track in the following few posts, I will close it.

Perhaps a thread should be opened in "Formal Debates and Discussion" and they could hammer out the details there.

I think if people here can respect the purpose of the thread, Automaton and I can hammer out an unambiguous resolution. This seems like a reasonable and unobjectionable request.

I'm frankly irritated at spin in particular for hijacking this thread and the other thread, especially when he has ducked an actual formal debate on a resolution of his own choosing. Shit or get off the pot.

I would prefer the moderators to simply delete any off-topic posts rather than simply close the thread.

Bokonon

Quote:
Is this debate assuming from the get-go that Suffering is objectively (or at least under normal circumstances) immoral?
Well, I will agree that I find suffering objectionable under certain circumstances.

Quote:
The human rights angle arguing against factory farming could still be used, but again, that's assuming Suffering is immoral. And of course the Environmental argument, but that's assuming destroying nature is immoral. Thus is the result of subjectivity.
These are all interesting suggestions. I merely insist it is unambiguous that Automaton and I disagree on whatever resolution we choose.

*bump* Automaton, have you decided on an unambiguous resolution yet?
