Kill your firstborn....God says so
This was based from my philosophy class:
For all accounts you know that killing a child is morally wrong and listed as one of the 10 commandments to be wrong. Tomorrow "god" comes to earth and says, "If you believe in me and want to go to heaven, forget everything you know and kill your first born." For Beliver's of a god(s): What would you do? Would your moral values suddenly change because "god" said so? If your an atheist: Would you suddenly believe in this god as a supreme being and do it? Me: I would be going to hell, my husband says the same thing. I don't think that I woudl believe that this person or being was a supreme god either. Mary |

I would check into the nearest psychiatric hospital. I'm a strong atheist.

So let me rephrase this then. What if it was a worldwide contact? Someone claiming to be a god and speaking every language in the world? Me: How do I know this isn't a being from another universe? They know people believe in "gods" so they come here to try to take over the world and figure it would be easier to kill off a lot of people indirectly. Mary |

It would seem logical to me if it were people invading the Earth with UFO's than anything to do with a fictional god creature watching us from the sky with a white beard and white robes. (which is what I think belief in gods is...) The odds are better that there is some form of life somewhere in the universe. Of course this is if I had to choose.

I would take my firstborn to the local alter, tie him down, prepare the incense as prescribed in leviticus, pruduce the sacraficial blade, pose in a classic B-horror pose, knife in air above child etc, and wait for god to send his angel and free goat like he always does. "April fool" as boro nut would say.

10 commandments plus 1
As far as I know, there are more than 1 sect in this world. All seemed to have developed from the surrounding big bang. GOD is not necessarily a domain of the Jewish faith.
The 10 commandments were given to Jews because of their slant on the world - their bad behaviours, this is obvious. There is some doubt amoung scholars in this world concerning the validity of some documents which have come out of this domain. The ten commandments itself is in doubt, seeing there were reports that Moses made the ascent to the mountain the night before. Why this 10 commandments is in doubt is due to one major reason. THOU SHALT NOT SLAVE. This is the missing 11 th commandment, which for all purposes, Moses could not write that himself, because of the nature of the day. No one would accept such a commandment. No one except the great GOD being (if extant)would have the guts to impose such a commandment. In this light it seems mundanely human to place God emphasis on the ten commandments. More emphasis should be placed on the ten commandments as a human contrived apparatus. Well meaning never the less, but the hand of a great GOD seems missing, and I have given a clear reason why I posit this philosophical position. Concerning sacrifice for appeasement, this seems more a pagan ritual rather than the working of the mind of a sophisticated intellectual being. So in conclusion I rather believe your question is directed to the atheists, the ones closer to the pagan attributes, rather than the true believers, the ones who dismiss stupidity as a lazy attitude towards life and liberty. Thank You. Sammi Na Boodie () |

If a god really appeared we would all go insane, before he would be able to even dictate any new commandments.
Our sanity and reason is based on the fact that the world makes logical sense. A god by definition would put all that upside down. |

(e.g.) Don't question God he is not to be put to the test ..... Yet Judges 6 : 34 - 40 has Gideon doing just that not once but twice/ the above is only if I have understood what you posted in the correct light ...because I can also see your statement being ... Why would you think it was the Judeo-Christian- Islamic God? |
