Fundamentalists plan to evangelize Catholics
<a href="http://greenvilleonline.com/news/2002/01/20/2002012018174.htm" target="_blank">http://greenvilleonline.com/news/2002/01/20/2002012018174.htm</a>
The priests are trying to explain to them that they already are Christian. This reminds me of the time my mom loudly announced in the middle of my living room, in front of my daughter, that catholics aren't christians. Then she suddenly realized what she'd done and in a whisper said, maybe I shouldn't say that in this household. (The other set of grandparents are catholic.) |

I personally think only Marcionites, Ebionites, Arians, Sabellians, Nestorians, Montanists and Pelagians are actually Christians. Catholics are heretics that used the secular power of Rome to wipe out the true Christians, and Protestants are just heretic Catholics.

The fundies are such a-holes. They have to insult and hurt others with their bigotry all the time. What low life trash they all are.
I am no fan of catholicism but given the centuries of protestant anti-catholic bigotry that existed in the US, I feel a bit for them. Just a bunch of white anglo-saxon protestant pieces of dung. I could go on here but you get what I am feeling. UGHHHH..... |

What do we make of ex-Catholics who convert to Protestantism, especially the more fundamentalist strains? What prompted them to break with the Mother Church? What was the sales pitch?
I suppose Catholics could be convinced (as Martin Luther was) that their church hierarchy is bloated and corrupt. They might re-read the Bible and be dismayed to find that many dogmas are not in Scripture. This would mean that scriptural literalism is a personal trait, and exists among Catholics. When exposed to fundamentalism, they gravitate toward the religion which is more amendable to their character. Of course, Christians are not supposed to lean upon their own understanding. Personal feelings are the way of ruin, not of salvation. That should mean nobody could ever choose to abandon or join any religion. |
