Super-Christopher Reeve's partial recovery
Christopher Reeve has had completely unprecidented regain of function. ^ 100 Okay he not exactly healed but no one before him (assuming the doctors know what they are talking about) has ever had a partial recovery as good as he has had from the condition he has.
If he was a fundy this would be called a miracle. So is Satan responsible? |

I read about this a few days ago and immediately wondered if Superman had been makin a few side trips on the sly to some.... unofficial research centers.... (like quietly testing an illegally derived stem cell treatment....)
If he has been.... I say more freakin power to him. |

The reports so-far seem to indicate that Reeve's restorations are pretty-minimal so-far; and that his being much heartened by them is fine! of course; but well w/in the limits of ordinary NON-MIRACULOUS eventuating.... And so? what's to discuss?

Well then you could just say it was God trying to use a miracle to make Reeve a believer...

It is not unprecedented at all, I used to live near the central research hospital for spinal injuries here in the UK and around 5-10% of patients regains some movement and/for feeling but it takes a long time and seems to depend on the age and determination of the patient, one teenager who broke his neck in a diving accident has recovered to the point where he can now carry on his main hobby prior to the accident, i.e cycling!
Of course if only they stopped fucking around with the latest stem cell research and allow it's use half of those patients could probably be up and around in no time. Has anyone seen the documentary where they remove about half an inch (1cm) of spinal chord from a rat and replace it with a biodegradeable sort of cotton wool impregnated with stem cells? Within a few weeks the rats are back on their feet, literally! (although they do then have to relearn how to walk because all the nerves connect up in different ways, that would be a weird experience for a human and may not be suitable for anyone with a weak heart!) Apart from all-that, I'd just like to say that Chr. Reeves & others in his plight eh, make me angry. I do NOT consider him to be any sort of HERO or whatever. If he'd STAYED OFF the goddamn HORSE, wh/ apparently he lacked the skills to ride, and stopped showing-OFF, he would at least NOT have disconnected his spinal nerve cord & its outer reaches in quite THAT way. My Old-Cowardly opinion is that risk-taking fools ought not do that; and ought not lay claim to very costly medical & rehabilitative services, when they are badly injured doing asshole-foolish actions, showing-off. Yes. I'm PREJUDICED. And "moralistic".This is similar to the position that dumb kids who bust themselves -up driving drunk, or fry their brains w/ street-drugs, have CHOSEN their fates & deserve NOTHING.

I don't see how any human being can live a risk-free life. Just crossing the road can finish you off if some idiot decides to drive down it way beyond the speed limit. I don't exactly subscribe to the xian idea that we are all sinners, but we are all fallible and liable to misjudgements. If only the wholly deserving got medical treatment, you'd see a lot of unemployed doctors!
