Red face Dr. Pepper Cans

For those who do not know, Dr. Pepper cans read "One Nation...Indivisible." In my local paper yesterday was an article about bible academy students that have started a letter writing campaign to protest the company's decision to omit "under God" from the can design. Here are some quotes from the article:

"I was upset and hurt when I saw that. We say the pledge every day, and that's the most important part."

"They told me there wasn't enogh room. Well, they could have left off "indivisible" instead."

"I wrote that leaving out God on the cans is not right. Our country was founded "under God" and they are leaving out our very foundation by doing this."

Fortunately, there have only been 200 complaints nationwide. I wonder how many these people know that "under God" was added to the pledge by people that want to believe our county was founded "under God?"

I noticed a local dentist's office used "One Nation Indivisible" on his billboard after 9/11 rather than the more common "God Bless America." I wonder if he got any comments?

Ironic how the two words "Under God" divide the "indivisible" nation.

I think indivisible is a much more important statement than "under god"

I do not consider "indivisible" important either. I'd be happy to let any state or territory go if it wanted; it's not worth killing people over.

I disagree, as part of what makes the US secure is its sheer size in both land area and population. However, I'd be more than happy to let individuals who want to go elsewhere do so. This probably isn't the thread to make these arguments, though.

Back to the OP, kudos to Dr. P. for choosing what should be a unifying slogan rather than the divisive theistic alternatives! Those godbot complainers are hereby sentenced to copy the First Amendment 100 times on the nearest blackboard.

Bottom line is, a private company has the right to publish whatever it wants on its own products (within decency and copyright limits). Likewise, people have the right to complain to the company and/or choose not to use its products.

True, and I should probably sentence myself to copy out the First Amendment 100 times for complaining about the godbot complainers. For some reason I thought the complaints in the OP came from the Bush administration. That's what I get for hanging out in the C/SS forum too much.

Well, I'm one of those who didn't know, which is odd because I've been drinking Dr Pepper on a daily basis for about 45 years. I've even made pilgrimages to Dublin Texas. In other words, I'm a Dr Pepper fanatic.

The can I'm drinking Dr Pepper out of right now says "Dr Pepper" and "12 Fl Oz (355 ml)" and "A Product of the Dr Pepper Co." and "Please Recycle." It also lists the ingredients and Nutrition Facts (best not to read). Other than that, it says "Visit our web site at DRPEPPER.COM." That's all it says.

The confusion may be that the soft drink "Dr Pepper" has no period following the "Dr". What "Dr. Pepper" with the period is, I don't know, maybe pepper spray or something.

Thumbs up

Now I know I will have to write Dr Pepper and let them know they did OK by me. I got one of the "One Nation...Indivisible" cans while I was back in Kansas about the beginning of the year. I keep meaning to write them to thank them for realizing that not all of us believe in the "One God" or any gods for that matter.

I think they need to hear from us non-believers to let them know we appreciate the inclusiveness, intentional or not.

Edited because my grammer is horrible, and to say that I still have the can as a reminder I should write the company.
