Classic theist argument.
On my city newspaper's message board, one person posted this argument for the existence of god:

Hey, If the IPU didnt exist, then there would be no IPU to disprove! <img src="graemlins/notworthy.gif" border="0" alt="[Not Worthy]" /> ( with all due respects to Her majesty )
But do these wonderful people who argue like that even know the difference between an * IDEA * and a physical/corporeal thing? Sheesh, I have an idea of a turbo-nuclear particle accelerator micro-gravitational warp-field generator, but that sure as heck doesnt mean it's real... no matter HOW HARD I WANT IT TO BE REAL. -Kv |

1) I cannot see the sun in the dark of night, yet I know it is there. 2) ... . . . 9) I cannot see the beautiful flower inside the bud, yet I know it is there 10) I cannot see God, yet I know He is there. He proudly and defiantly showed that poem to me and said, "Ah Ha, What do you think about that you atheist Smart Ass. Try to wiggle out of that!". Like that was proof as far as he was concerned. So later when he wasn't looking, I took a piece of tape and wrote, "Santa Claus" on it and pasted it over the word "God" on line 10. When he saw that later, you could just see the gears turning in his head, steam coming out his ears and his eyeballs bouncing like lotto balls. I thought he was going to explode like those fembots in Austin Powers! Of course he had no response to my little revision and he's still a fundy today. Using the same logic:
Unicorns must exist because if they didn't, then there wouldn't be a Unicorn to disbelieve in the first place. Or, All false claims must exist (be true) because if they weren't, then there wouldn't be any false claims to disbelieve in the first place. Ha Ha Ha! They think they're proving God's existence, but they're really giving evidence that belief in God is based on stupidity! Theistic apologists will never be able to combine logical reasoning with God. The two are like oil and water - they don't mix. It's not good enough for the theist to be honest - to say: "I believe in God only because I want to". This might make others ask: "Well why do you want to?" Belief in God is a nothing more than a "want". There is, and never will be, any air-tight logical proof that will back up a belief in an invisible God. |
