Bush's "holiday message"
Look at what our unelected president said the other day while lighting the national xmas tree:
Quote:
What a bunch of nonsense. F--k George Bush and his mindless, ignorant supporters. [ December 07, 2002: Message edited by: atheist_in_foxhole ]
|

People really celebrated Christmas 2000 years ago -- before Jesus ever did anything?
I know, he's rounding. But this site explains that the first feast commemorating Jesus' birth was around A.D. 200 -- in May! It also adds that Origen believed that only sinners celebrated birthdays. |

It doesn't bug me so much that Bush believes this stuff. It bugs me that he thinks it's appropriate, and a good idea, to issue official proclamations like this that are so laden with veneration for one religion. It's like he doesn't even realize or care that he leads a religiously pluralistic nation.

I just think it's funny that he's promoting an ancient Pagan holiday and doesn't even realize it!

Jamie-You pretty much summed up my feelings about these sort of things. It's not just Mr. Prez, but others who are to represent us (Senators, public school principals) who just don't get the inappropiateness of favoring Christianity.
