Harris Poll - The Religious and Other Beliefs of Americans 2003
http://www.harrisinteractive.com/har...ex.asp?PID=359
I like the section on religious beliefs and political affiliation. For example, 82% of Republicans believed in hell, while only 63% of Democrats and 65% of independants did. Also interesting was that 86% of males believed in god, and 93% of females did. That would explain why the males here at II are complaining about the lack of female infidels. |

I wish they would categorize by type of education, rather than amount. It would give us something to tease each other over.

So if 90% believe in god, that means 10% do not, correct? That's actually a pretty good percentage in comparison to some polls (for the U.S. anyway). Ten percent is more than the percentage of many denominations. (I'm trying to look at the bright side obviously.)

These polls always make me sad.
You mean to tell me that 1 in 6 people with post-graduate college educations believe in astrology? I mean I already knew how many idiots believed Christian ideas, but it just makes me remember how horrible our schools are at teaching critical thought. -B |

77 percent of U.S. adults believe in an obvious myth like the virgin birth? How depressing.
I can't believe that I live in such a backwards, superstitious country. :banghead: |

The trouble is that it's considered virtuous to believe in such fairy tales -- supposedly, such believing will keep one from being a vile, depraved monster who hates everything and who appreciates nothing.

It would be interesting to see what many clergypeople personally believe, as opposed to what they tell their congregations and the public.
