I would recommend that Augusta Atheists/freethinkers and other like minded organize and form a class of instruction that they intend to teach after school hours. If the school board denies them the opportunity file a law suit. There's nothing like a lawsuit to make the school board realize what they are doing - and anything that generates legal fees is fine with me.

Superb! A mirror can be the secularist's best legal and ethical weapon in the advocacy of critical thinking. |

SLD,
Actually, I hope that happens and that it is approved, and then see if atheists still decide to file suit. |

Official bible study? Sounds great! Let's make sure the elementary school kids spend a lot of time studying Song of Solomon. That ought to make the parents happy.

"Kids need Christianity" umm wtf. Why do these people never stop to think about what is coming out of their mouths? Why would kids need christianity? were there kids before christ? did the world end? is it the "these kids these days" syndrome?
I can't believe someone could walk around and say "kids need christianity" without anyone commenting at least, "what on earth for?" Kids need Xianity like a hole in the head. |

I feel I must respond to 'kids need christianity' with the following:
KIDS NEED PHYSICAL EDUCATION. I was at Cedar Point this past weekend, and I shit you not there were 8 year olds that were approaching the shape of a ball. There were many midriffs bared and I have to tell you: THEY FAIL IT I don't think they understand that this is how those people who weigh 300+ pounds get their start. And the parents just feed them another candy bar to shut them up. They need christianity, indeed. |

Why would they sue in that situation? The lawsuit would be for the denial of freethinkers rights? Here's a serious question (and I don't really know Augusta School Board members): Would the Augusta School Board in fact vote against a secularist using the school to promote secularism and non-religion in clear violation of the free exercise clause and Supreme Court precedent? Or would they in fact do the right thing and let students choose which one they would attend? I'm sure that the parents would freak out, and demand a no vote. But would their attorney tell them they can't approve one without the other? SLD |
