A survey!
This survey can also be found linked to on the newswire page of the SecWeb. I don't know if it actually qualifies as activism per se, but it does get your voice heard.
Check it out! |

Where does one go to say that these are poorly formed questions.
(1) I believe that moral principles are (Relative/Absolute). "Relative" is a poorly defined term here. Location, for example, is a "relative" property (you cannot give the location of anything except insofar as where it stand in relation to something else. There are no "absolute" locations in space/time. And, yet, there are right and wrong answers to questions such as, "Where are the keys to the car?" A relativist with respect to location cannot simply say, "I believe the keys are in my coat pocket," and expect the keys to magically appear there. (2) I believe that moral principles are largely determined by genetics/environment. Try the following question: "I believe that scientific principles are largely determined by genetics/environment". Hopefully, the answer is neither. Scientific beliefs may have some genetic or environmental explanation -- a belief, after all, is a biological state; a state of the brain. But the principles themselves? The question is nonsensical. (3) Right and wrong are never a matter of black and white; there are many shades of gray. How about, "I believe that right and wrong are themselves a matter of black and white, but sometimes too difficult to determine, leaving us with no practical alternative but to treat them as shades of gray." (4) 4. I believe that people are (inherently good/inherently bad). Inherently? I could go on, but I'm at work. My boss would not approve. And it would be wrong for me to spend my work time in this type of activity. |
