Default Moore announces refusal to move monument

Moore announces refusal to follow the law

Quote:
MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore stood firm Thursday, saying he has no intention of removing a Ten Commandments monument from the rotunda of the Alabama Supreme Court, and will file papers taking the case to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Well, that was not unexpected. There you go alabama, your chief justice announces today that he is a criminal, he wants to remain a criminal, and you guys get to foot the bill. What an arrogant bastard christian. Who thinks this guy is acting as a good christion? anyone anyone?

Quote:
the promised fines would add to the approximate $125 million the state has already spent defending the monument's place.
Is this for real? Alabama has spent $125 million defending this fucking rock? Do they not have more pressing needs for their money? What about education?! What about healthcare? Shit! What about potholes in the road! anything that would benefit the citizens would be better than wasting this colossal amount of cash. This truly disgusts me.

Even if Marshall, Holmes, and Cardozo were resurrected and formed a lawfirm, there's no way even they could charge THAT much. The $125 million must be a mistake.

Moore pledged to ask the Supreme Court to overrule Thompson and said the promised fines would add to the approximate $125 million the state has already spent defending the monument's place. The state is spending $25,000 a day of taxpayers' money on the case, Moore said.
Let's see. $125 million/$25000 = 5000 days. It may seem like this has been going on for 13 years, but I don't think so.

Moore's math is as bad as his grasp on constitutional law. :banghead:

The plaintiffs said a while ago that they had spent $700,000. I wonder if Moore has spent $1.25 million?

But I also thought the money spent so far was NOT coming from the state. Am I wrong on that?

(The fines will come from the state, which is why the state will move the monument during the evening of August 19th. You heard it here first.)

IIRC, D. James Kennedy and his Coral Ridge Ministries - Moore's de facto business partners in this mess - raised assloads of money that was supposed to go toward funding Moore's defense. I also remember seeing a website run by some other outfit that was soliciting for a legal defense fund. What the hell happened to all THAT money?

Apparently, the rest of the Alabama Supreme Court has seen enough. From Faust's article:

Quote:
Senior Associate Justice J. Gorman Houston released a written statement after Justice Moore’s speech in which he suggested he had not been consulted on the decision.

His written statement said, in part: “I had tried to find out what Roy Moore intended to do earlier but I was unable to do so.” He added he and the other associate justices will “take whatever steps are necessary, one: To make certain that the state of Alabama and the unified judicial system of the state does not have to pay a fine, two: To assure that the state of Alabama is ‘a government of laws not of men’ as our Constitution requires.”
So Moore gets to play the unflappable hero to his knuckle-walking fundy fans while shifting all the burdens to other state officials.

Christ, what a grandstanding bitch this clown is.
