Post Christian Coalition Headline re: feminism

Is there any truth to the bibles contention that a successful society has to be one that is governed by men? In my daily attempt to solicit laugh's at the expense of the Christian Coalition, I went to their website and pulled up an article stating that America has gone "Feminine". Read for your self

Conservative Labels U.S. as 'Thoroughly Feminized Country'
By Jim Brown and Jody Brown
April 12, 2002

(AgapePress) - A conservative Christian radio commentator and Baptist pastor says America is a thoroughly feminized nation where women dominate the home, church, and the country's political structure.

Dr. Chuck Baldwin says men once took pride in being the spiritual heads of their homes -- but now he is not certain if masculine men are even desirable anymore. Baldwin says the entire American political agenda is driven by "radical feminism." However, he says, that is not the ultimate problem. According to him, it all starts in the home.

"I think most of the homes of this country, including those that are in the church, are dominated and controlled by women," Baldwin says. "We know that there are more and more children that are being raised in single-parent homes,
[and] the vast majority of those are headed by women."

Baldwin says even in the traditional two-parent family, many men have surrendered their God-given headship to women. This, he says, is "the sign of a nation in trouble."

The feminizing of America, he says, is the result of a nation that is increasingly turning its back on God and biblical principles. "As a society [we have] repudiated the laws of God relative to moral behavior, family life, etc., for at least four decades," he says. "The further down the road of rebellion we go, the more difficult it is to turn it around."

In a column last week, Baldwin said the exact cause of the feminizing of America is difficult to pinpoint. He wonders if radical feminism caused men to abandon their God-given responsibilities, or if that abandonment created the vacuum from which radical feminism grew.

"It is the old chicken or the egg question," he wrote. "However, one thing is sure: men have abandoned their responsibilities of leadership, and our nation is going down the tubes because of it."

He notes that one Old Testament prophet warned that one of the marks of a nation under divine judgment is when "women rule over them." (Isaiah 3:12)

-------------------------------------------------
It's obvious that the general athiest rationale gives women a lot more credit than the bible does, but I have had conversations with some atheist friends who still feel women are best suited for certain roles, and abandoning those roles has led to problems.

Here's my opinion. Women are more vocal and ambitious today than they were years ago. But that's just on the outside. On the inside, they've had this ambition and desire to be a presence outside of the home forever, but never had the outlet to explore it until recently.

And America isn't this terrible country that conservatives fret about--they're just threatened by the change in tradition--a tradition that made them kings for so many years. It's all about machoism and a need to be in control.

It is a parallel to how the Taliban viewed (views?) women. Blame women for "corrupting" the god-given system with men at the top.....

I wonder what he thinks is the cause of this phenomenon.

Welfare, or course. Generous welfare grants allow women to have babies without keeping a husband around. It even allows them to leave their husbands! That's why the religious conservatives want welfare to be privatized and turned over to True Christian organizations, to be sure those mothers are kept as miserable as they would be if they had a husband around.

What is it with all these fundies that think America/the world is going "down the tubes" just because more and more people are ignoring their draconian rules? What they see as regress I see mostly as progress.

I'm not sure exactly who is contributing to America's "moral decline" but I know damn sure who's contributing to its intellectual decline.

Scratch a theist, and you'll find a insecure misogynist.

Well, since USA is the only superpower and in many respects are damn sight better off than theocratic regimes where men rule over women: weapons, economy, law and order --- obviously feminist govt. had been very good.
Try this argument.

You mean you can't argue with success? That's true but maybe we are now just in the lul before the storm.

As for myself I would never blame females for want of liberation but would blame males for the inadequate leadership they provide to cause this want for liberation. An argument can be made that our sexuality is an illusion that is created in the controversy between the sexes. The direction of our American society is geared towards the removal of this controversy and if indeed our sexuality is an illusion the psychological neutering of America is not really what we should aim for because our ability to procreate will be the price we pay for this.

In the end the fact remains (my own postulate) that by the same extent females become liberated will their effeminate qualities decrease to the point where in the end the masculine female fail to ovulate. Examples of this are many but female body builders and fertility clinics come to mind here. Of course, the sperm count of males goes down long before this if females dance to the songs of males.

As wise atheist we should never dismiss fair warnings the good old bible gives us just for the sake of protest because there might just be some words of wisdom in it.
