phil's view
Very even minded view IMO. I hope that he does a monologue or maybe a closing speech in the same tone as this written bit. Pat Buchanan is going to be in a tizzy. I'll be in the field tonight catching bady shad. Somebody please watch and tell us how Buchanan reacts. |

Pat Buchanan makes me dislike myself and I dislike him more for that. He makes me dislike myself because every time he opens his mouth, I want something bad to happen to him. His media access needs to be revoked because he no longer is in touch with the reality of the US.
[added] It always makes me feel special to be reminded that wastes-of-flesh like Buchanan can ad hom atheists on national television without fear of retribution. Much as he would like to slander Jews, Muslims, etc, he knows he would be vilified. Truly, we are the last of a dying breed, friends. [ July 15, 2002: Message edited by: Philosoft ]
|

Watching it right now.
Donahue isn't doing to good, IMHO. Not that Buchanon is making good points, but because Donahue will not counter-point them! I'm here SCREAMING at the T.V. screen. (lol, I know it helps, right?) [ July 15, 2002: Message edited by: vonmeth ]
|

In other words, Phil Donahue isn't a mouthpiece, and never was. He's just a host. |

Does anyone opposed to the pledge ruling actually understand the pledge ruling? I keep hearing Christians crying about how the minority is preventing the majority from saying the pledge. Do these people actually know that they can still say under god and instruct their childern do so and pretend otherwise because they know what they actually lost, which they never should have had, is government endorsement of their point of view?

I was screaming at the screen too. Every valid, reasonable point Donahue brought up was followed by " but it is the majority that rules" by Buchanan. I then shouted at the TV "Well then, why isn't Gore President???!!!!!"
Donohue brought up the Founding Fathers, separation of church/state, a Jewish kid who is forced to paticipate in a Nativity play, how the terrorists were acting according to their God/Allah... Buchanan kept repeating "that sorry atheist in California is going to prevent the rest of us from saying the Pledge"... I couldn't make out what both Donahue and Buchanan wer shouting at each other to finish off the debate. I did hear Buchanan was shouting something about the Founding Fathers believing in Jesus Christ... My level headed daughter simply said, "just take out 'underGod'!" Right on, kiddo. Gilly |

I agreed with every single word that Donahue said on the show. Unfortunately, I thought he did very poorly against Buchanon. I like how Buchanon kept repeating, "THAT atheist" with the same tone he'd use if he were screaming "THAT child molestor who ate his victims!" I don't really understand the whole "minority is oppressing the majority" argument. It's quite simple. "Under God" endorses Monotheism. The majority of this nation is white. Is "one Caucasian nation" acceptable? If the minority doesn't want to say the word, they don't have to!
