Circumcision
I realize that there will be individuals reading this who may themselves be circumcised, and I don't want to offend anyone. However, this is an issue (a contentious one to be sure) that deserves discussion.
Today there is no medical association anywhere in the western world that advocates circumcision. The Surgery is done for non-therapeutic reasons. Parents who decide to have their sons circumcised do so for religious or cultural reasons. They may want their sons to look like their fathers, or other boys, or if they are Jewish or Muslim it's because God demands it to be done. Whatever the reason, boys are given no choice in the matter. That is my problem with it. Who gives someone the right to surgically alter the genitals of a non-consenting minor? If a man of legal age wanted to be circumcised I couldn't care less. But an enfant can't defend his body. |

I actually posted this topic on the science & skepticism board a couple weeks ago and the discussion seems to still be going on <a href="http://iidb.org/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=57&t=000078" target="_blank">here</a>.
