Post Published again! (Plus, see the wacko after my letter...)

<a href="http://www.heraldonline.com/opinions/letters/story/1512894p-1542811c.html" target="_blank">Published in The Herald</a>

Here's a choice quote from the next letter - it'd be hilarious if it wasn't so pathetically sad...

Quote:
Now, thanks to our government, many children will grow up not believing in God. And to think that the public actually puts these atheists in office to run our God-fearing country!
If only...right. How hopelessly paranoid!

And there's another pro-c/s letter after his...and two anti-c/s letters (filled with the same drivel we've come to expect) preceding that one.

Congratulations! I applaud the pub. of your letter. The following letter perfectly illustrates why we need to have our voice heard.

Vox Populi

Quote:
Enron employees were being praised for their pictorials in Playboy. ... So it's OK for them to pose nude but not for our students to say the pledge?
Quote:
God must be thinking: I saw and stood among you on that black September morn. Do you remember the mindless terror that shook a nation to its core?

...
Yet so soon it does offend you to be a nation under me. So much for your bumper stickers and billboards.

Nice work Daggah. I wonder if you have a sympathetic editor who delights in counterposing well reasoned and supported arguments against mindless rants, or if those pro-godpledge letters were the best he got? Either way, it sure makes you, and us, look good.

BTW, our local editorial page had one thoughtful letter supporting the 9CC (from a reverend who opposed adding "under god" in 1954) and two edge-of-psychosis letters blasting the decision. On the opposite page, Andy Rooney interviewed a guy who was said to be establishing an atheist private school. But in the last line, Rooney decides that the guy is pulling his leg.

Great letter!

One small nit-pick.

It was in the Treaty of Tripoli when both houses of Congress unanimously ratified it,

Nope! Just the Senate. (U.S. Constitution, Art, 2, Sec. 2, Item # 2.)

Then why the f*ck didn't he do something to prevent the deaths? The old bastard!

Recently I read on this board "I refuse to worship a deity who is meaner than I am". I don't recall who said it, but I sure wish someone would make it into a bumper sticker.

Isn't this also the same company that cheated many unaware Americans out of thousands of dollars? So it's OK for them to pose nude but not for our students to say the pledge?

What the FUCK does Enron employees posing for playboy have to do with a decision by the court saying that the "under God" addition to the pledge is unconstitutional?! NOTHING!!! NOTHING AT ALL! Posing for Playboy is a moral issue, a moral issue that the goverment has no constitutional power to control. However, Congress adding "under God" to the pledge is Congress overstepping their power.

What I love most about theists like Hope Anderson is the way they demonstrate again and again the frequency with which illiteracy, retardation and arrogant ignorance go hand-in-hand with a belief in invisible boogie men and things that go bump in the night. If the world were still run by god-fearers she would never have learned to write.

Daggah,

I loved reading your letter, particularly because I then read the opposing letters. Compared to yours, which was thoughtfully written and contained far more fact than emotion, the others sounded like little more than "Blah Blah!!! Fear!!! Blah Blah!!! Emotion!!! Blah Blah!!! Irrational!!!"

Good job!
