Unhappy Funeral Message?

Went to a funeral today. The poor man, Frank, died in a terrible way; he had lung cancer and heart failure and couldn't breathe. He was in the process of undergoing chemo and was too weak to even talk. The preacher at the funeral sang "How Great Thou Art" and kept talking about how great God was and that now his loving servant, Frank, was joining him. Yup; God was a real peach to have his loving servant suffer excrutiatingly and then die while fairly young. Nice move, God; you sure are great. It boggles the mind.

On Monday, I went to a funeral as well. He was the brother to my uncle, and had contracted cancer. I forget what type, but they did a great deal of operating on him to try to save him. He went through a lot of pain. It was a very devestating time for his family, and mine. In a year, the poor guy pretty much wasted away.

I found the same thing running through my mind at the service.

If somehow my relatives insist on a religious funeral for me, I'd at least want to make sure that they include my favorite funereal Bible verse: Luke 9:59-62. That's where Jesus is walking along a road and bids a prospective disciple to "Follow me."

Quote:
But the man replied, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father."
Jesus said to him, "Let the dead bury their dead. You go and proclaim the kingdom of God."
Still another man said, "I will follow you, Lord; but first let me say goodbye to my family."
Jesus replied, "No one who puts his hand ot the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God."
You can see where he's coming from. If the Kingdom is at hand, why bother with the proper disposal of familial carcasses?
