Can People Get Any Dumber?
(I'm not quite sure which forum this fits in, but I figure here is best.)
I was listening to the radio... some idiot NPR-ish station.. and they were talking about the age of the Earth. They had some scientists on the program talking about "evidence" for a young Earth. Scientists. Talking about SCIENTIFIC evidence! They talked about how "Older Earth" advocates use the calculated rates radioactive decay as their reason. But these scientists (and I use the term loosely), they say that there is very sound reason to believe that something speeded up the rate of radioactive decay (and please keep in mind that this thing is half their argument). Now, and I quote.. "the only plausible explanation for this increase in the speed of radioactive decay is the Great Flood that is described in the book of Genesis." Now please, stop me at any time if I'm wrong here, but since when is the "Holy Bible" a source of scientific knowhow, much less an accurate historical representation, and since when does water lessen a radioactive material's half-life? (Answers: Never, and Never!) These "scientists" can come back when they have proof that isn't based on religion. |

The really sad part is, a significant portion of the public will buy into what they said.

Yes, people can get any dumber. As long as engineers are working to develop fool-proof devices, the universe will be breeding bigger fools.

To make it seem like they knew what the hell they were talking about, they also gave some half-assed explanation about ocean floor mud. Seriously. They could at least TRY to not make it painfully visible that they're full of shit. Or god. Well, same thing.

Are you sure it wasn't a Christian radio program you were listening to? It doesn't sound like NPR to me.

It wasn't NPR, but it was NPR-ish. It was like WKDR Radio Camden or something like that. They didn't talk about it being a Christian station or anything like that, and they kinda slipped in the religion.
You know the worst thing? My mom, a Jew (who doesn't really believe in god) actually listened and yelled at me when Icriticized them, since "they know better than [me]". I REALLY hate people. |

Interesting... here's a trained geological engineer attempting to argue that Noah's Flood occurred.

That's exactly what they were trying to pull on that damned radio program.
How #$%@ing hypocritical is it to call a biblical event a form of "scientific evidence"? It's sad, really. They're like "these are professional geologists..." blah blah blah... and then they go into biblical discussion. Next they'll be telling us that Jesus won't take us to heaven if we believe in a 4.6 billion year old Earth. Ah, the wonders of fake science. |
