There doesn't seem to be any reason why that should be the case. Assuming, of course, that it's possible for anything to exist "outside" the universe.

That's really where I want to go with this line of debate. Your later point precedes your first in reasonableness (is that a word?). Can something even exist outside the universe? Sure the heck we don't know now. However, the suggestion allows for the possibility. If that possibility exists, then it becomes the burden of the theist to prove (impossible) that which may exist outside the universe is suspect to casuality or creation, therefore needs a god to create it.

Theists say that they believe a god needed to create this universe, that it is so finely tuned. I redirect that into my argument, what about outside the universe? What else did he create or does there exist? If they allow that "matter" can exist outside the universe, then they almost have to allow for casuality to be in question on the outside.

Illogical for god to exist outside of existence. Therefore, is not omnipotent.
