Blood on their hands
I've heard it said many times by some christians that one reason it is important to proclaim the gospel is to avoid God's disapproval.
They fear that the blood of the nonbeliever will be "on their hands" if they fail to witness to them and that God will somehow bring the christian to account for it at the last judgement. The only verse of scripture I can find to account for this belief is Ezekiel 33:1-9. I have two questions. First, what is the punishment they fear? The christians I hear this reason from most often tend to fall into the "once saved, always saved" portion of the christian spectrum. So I doubt they feel their salvation is in peril. What's the worst God could do? Second, how do these christians hold this belief in light of Romans 1:18-23? It seems to indicate that God himself has revealed to nonchristians all they need to know in order to be saved. It would appear these christians are worrying needlessly. Any help here would be appreciated. |
