What a thread. If there was a Hell, this would be it.

I don't believe that the Bible is infallible.
I don't believe that there is a Hell.
I don't believe that Humans are depraved.
I don't believe that Jesus is the "only" way.

I believe that there is an afterlife.
I believe that how we behave on Earth and how we treat others matters far more than "being saved".
I believe that humans have distorted Christianity, from a loving doctrine to one of judgement and hate.

So keep your Christianity. I don't care anymore.

Seriously? Oh geez, don't give up because you get frustrated, I'll tell you what, Apologetics is a trying test upon your faith if you take it too seriously, that's why I dismiss about 95% of what I read, if it don't jive with God's apparent will, then I don't put too much stock in it.

Besides I think you only really only need to believe that Jesus is the only way, everything else is just details. Once Jesus is in your life (not that he's ever left), he will guide you. Never listen to humans on matters of your faith, you can learn from them, but don't let them tell you *how* to seek Jesus, that's what you have the bible and your Church for. If you can't trust them, then you can't trust anything pertaining to the faith.

But - the Church is made up of humans. If you trust the Church aren't you trusting humans?

And 'the Bible' usually means 'the Bible as interpreted by some or other humans.

I think it's interesting that John's gospel says "Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many people saw the miraculous signs he was doing and believed in his name. But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all men. He did not need man's testimony about man, for he knew what was in a man." (John 2:23-25)

How about if you only trust God? Would that work? What would that look like?

I'm not 100% certain...but it may have something to do with the fact that you come across to me as a smarmy jerk.

On the Dante scale, this thread is first circle material at most. For a whiff of the ninth circle, check out this 84-page brothel of a thread.

I'd love to welcome you to emancipation, but something tells me this is frustration and pain talking, not deconversion. You know Badfish's brand of xianity is just that. His brand. Of course he's going to claim there are no other right ones.

Goliath, you may couch your insults in the conditionals of courtesy and personal opinion, but they are as unacceptable in that guise as in any other. If you find this thread too ass-kissing for your tastes, then perhaps you should refrain from posting to it.

No I'm not livius, that's not a fair statement, but I can see when something or an idea has strayed way beyond the boundries of God's will.

Annabel and I haven't actually had many doctrinal debates, we may throw in a few jabs here and there, but the problem I see is that she is being too worried about other peoples side of debate.

LIVE IN THE NOW!!!!

Smarmy? Is that a North Dakota thing?

And since when is it logical to base an assumption or stereotype on one person?

Now be honest, have I been smarmy with you personally?

livius drusus,

Looking back, my last post in this thread was a bit uncalled for. My apologies (not for believing the last statement I made in this thread to be true, but for posting it).

Sincerely,

Goliath
