Default Stolen Iraqi artwork brought to US by journalist!

Some artwork seized

Quote:
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Artwork possibly stolen from at least one Iraqi museum was seized at Washington Dulles International Airport and Boston's Logan Airport during the past week, government officials told CNN on Tuesday.

No arrests have been made, yet and no criminal charges have been filed, the officials said. Investigators must determine the value or significance of the artifacts before any other action is taken, one source said.

At least one of the people being investigated is a journalist, said government officials, who would not elaborate.

There was no word on what types of artwork were involved. Other items such as photographs of people in leadership positions -- apparently stolen from private residences -- also were seized, one source said.
So the even the looters have embedded journalists now?

hw

Seriously this kinda calls into question the objectivity of the media in this business.

Yeah, I heard about this. What is the "journalists" name, huh? Why can't they release that? We ought to know. That news agency would take a hit, for sure.

Wager: I say its Fox.

Quote:
Johnson, who initially told Customs officials he was given the paintings by Iraqi citizens, said he had planned to keep them for decoration and to provide one to his employer, the affidavit says. It is U.S. policy that all such items belong to the Iraqi people.
Wouldn't that have looked nice in the lobby?

Funny how it is minimized: 'US policy that all such items belong to the Iraqi people' as if we were talking about some obscure customs regulation instead of looting.

I wish I had put real money down.

Anyway, I may have underestimated Fox's ability to damage control this. The lowly "tech worker" is the goat. Name him. Fire him. Disavaow him. End of story.

the guy from fox is the only one charged.... but there have been more:

Quote:
Customs officials in Boston said they confiscated several souvenirs, including a painting, from Boston Herald reporter Jules Crittenden when he returned Saturday from Kuwait. A spokeswoman for the U.S. attorney's office in Boston said the decision was made not to charge Crittenden with a crime.

A statement from The Herald said that Crittenden declared the items and cooperated with Customs officials.

Additional Iraqi items, including a painting, gold-plated emblem, gun holster and knife, that were being shipped by several other members of the media were seized at Dulles on Monday.

Didn't Herr Rumsfeld state that the looting in Iraq was merely part of the consequence of "liberating" a people (in his own words, "Stuff happens...")?

Why shouldn't media people (and U.S. soldiers) not participate in this "untidiness?"
