Any other Deus X fans on here?
I just finished playing the game several times and am done with it. I just ordered System Shock 2 and Half Life 2 I am looking for other games as good as Deus X with FPS and RPG all in one. Any sugestions? [edited to add II revenue link; unfortunately, the first two games, like the poster, are not available] |

Deus Ex 2 and System Shock 2 are the only other crossover fps/rpg's I know of, and D.E. 2 isn't out yet. (it's slated for late 2003, early 2004, last I heard).
Half Life 2 won't be a rpg, it's simply a fps with an excellent, detailed story. Have you played the original? If not, it's not new, but I'd highly recommend it for the intricate, fascinating story. [edited to add II revenue link; D.E. 2 is coming Oct. 18] |

![]() System Shock 2 was built with the "Dark" (Thief) engine, so the gameplay is similar, aside from the futuristic setting and role-playing aspects. The ending bothered me, but I'd rather not spoil it for you. You might also look into buying Gothic and Gothic 2. {Gothic 2 Amazon link} They're set in third-person (you can still look around FPS style) and are "pure" RPGs akin to Morrowind, Might and Magic, etc. Also, have you heard of the Lands of Lore series by Westwood? As a whole, they've been reviewed as mediocre games, but I really enjoyed Lands of Lore: Guardians of Destiny. This game has incredible music and a story that makes you actually care about your character and his quest. You'll have to put up with somewhat outdated graphics, but that shouldn't stop you from enjoying the game. Check it out, if you feel like throwing a little more money around. ![]() Let me know if you have any questions, especially about Gothic or Lands of Lore, as I haven't yet talked to anyone about either game. Deux Ex was very fun, but at the moment I don't have much to say about it... By the way, which ending did you choose? Or, if you ended up trying them all, which ending did you choose first? knetekade, first I want to thank you for the great details you have taken the time to include in your review for me.
I will try those games you mentioned but am not crazy about poor graphic games. I also loved warcraft 2 and need to try 3 (Reign of Chaos and Expansion: The Frozen Throne). Quote:
![]() basically what I want in a game is 1. Futuristic 2. Philosophical 3. High quality graphics (I bought a monster ciomputer just for games ![]() ![]() 4. Action 5. Puzzling 6. Mysterious and unpredictable 7. Open enviornment [edited to add II revenue links] |

I've been an Avid tribes 2 fan for quite some time but got out of it a few months ago and got into some other FPS games. Deus Ex is one of my all time favorite games and i played it several times through as well. Half life is an amazing game and i cant wait for DX2 and HL2. I haven't gotten around to System shock 2 yet because there are just so many games out there to play! Lots of bad ones too.....
Game on! [edited to add II revenue link] |

You also might want to check out Anachronox. It's turn-based (right guys?) and set in the future. Since I've never played it, someone else will need to give you advice regarding this game. Quote:
![]() I'd estimate that you have about 500 total hours of gameplay if you decide to play through all the games we mentioned. Have fun! |
