Of course, then when the experiment fails it's always possible to argue that the "vibes" can't pass through walls. At the very least, the person guessing the cards should be blindfolded. The eyes should have nothing to do with this "sense" and thus should rightly be taken out of the equation. Similarly, sound should have nothing to do with this "sense." As such, once your partner knows what the card is, he should make absolutely no sound until you have made your guess. You should not be allowed to guess more than once. There is no reason to guess multiple times and doing so has the detrimental side-effect of allowing communication between the tester and the testee while the trial is in progress. People underestimate the amount of information that can be subconsciously conveyed by the traditional senses such as vision and hearing. They interpret this as "extra-sensory" perception when there's nothing "extra-sensory" about it. Remember, any good controlled experiment will hold all extraneous variables (i.e. things other than the dependent and independent variables) fixed.
Also, if you really want your experiment to mean something, you should set up a control group. For example, have your partner specifically not think about the card and see whether your success rate is affected. Conduct the experiment via some teleconference equipment and see whether your success rate is affected. I'd be willing to bet anything that your success would be unaffected (assuming you don't follow the blindfold/no speaking rules I give above) if you did this via teleconference, even though it's silly to assume that the teleconference equipment is transmitting the necessary ESP data. |

I don't know. The things I have done were all in person and not as open ended as what number. there are an infinate number of possibilities. My ability is not very good anyway. I have tried online psi-tests and am not very good at them My reply : The difference between test (whether online or face to face) and actual exercise (when you do it for real) is simply in the doing the job itself. In a test, your mind is too relaxed for your ability to work properly. You must be in a heightened sense for it to work ... at least that what I understood from a friend of mine. Trying imagine couple of sceptics staring at you like they are staring at a lab rat and try to see whether you could concentrate or not. PS : You are VERY brave to admit in THIS forum that you have such abilities .... VERY brave indeed. My complements |

Yup, that's an excuse people that claim paranormal powers often use when they fail in objectively-performed controlled tests, except I've heard it also as: 1) it's the pressure that causes problems - I need to be relaxed for it to work; 2) the skeptic's negative energy (or something along those lines) is interfering with my powers! (kinda like Tinkerbell - you gotta believe for her to live!) |

Hmmm, what Mageth said. I trust you can see how absurdly circular that is, and exactly reinforces the sceptic’s explanation that your observance of phenomena, is a direct product of your desire to observe these phenomena. Can you name any other human behaviour which defies objective scientific study on these grounds ? There should be dozens, but in reality there are ways to scientifically study even mood-dependent behaviours in humans. Except of course ESP & the like. Now why might that be ? |
