Post Synopic Gospel Topics - Luke

Easy way out? Maybe.

I have a test coming up about the Gospel of Luke and I was wondering if any of you guys could answer these questions off the top of your heads, rather than me looking it up. Thanks!

-Discuss "Jesus and Women" in Luke and Acts
-Comment on "Jesus and the Rich and Poor" in Luke and Acts
-In what ways and instances does Luke "improve" Peter's image?
-Discuss "the word" in Luke and Acts.

Thanks again guys.

For the first one, please see Randall Helm's chapter on Luke in his Who Wrote the Gospels?

If you wnat commentaries, just go to the websites for Synoptic-L or Crosstalk and read the archives. but you'd be better off using that wonderful invention, the library. I am sure your teachers wouldn't want you to miss the experience of actual research with real books.

These look like essay questions, not questions with quick answers. Are you looking for material, or do you want to be sure you haven't missed a point?

On Jesus and women in Luke: Randel Helms in Who Wrote the Gospels makes the case that the author of Luke-Acts was a woman, because of the emphasis on female characters, as well as various little hints contained in the text. Of course, the author may have been merely trying to integrate women into the church more, or the patron to which Luke-Acts is addressed might be a woman, or there may be some other explanation.

E.g., in Luke's version of the empty tomb, the women find that the tomb is empty. Unlike the Markan women, they go to tell the disciples. Unlike Matthew's version, the male disciples don't believe the women. (Those men just never listen!)

gLuke also contains a list of women who were healed and financially supported the Twelve, in Luke 8:2-8. There are many other instances where women are the first to receive the holy spirit, be raised from the dead (in Acts), or the first in other categories. Paul's first convert was a woman, Lydia.

I can't retype the whole chapter here. If you can't find it, email me.
