Post Should Recreational Sex Be Outlawed? [Is It Immoral?]

Recreational sex = Engaging in sex for physical and mental intimacy leading, potentially, to both male and female orgasms, and without the intent to reproduce/procreate.

Reproductive/procreational sex = Engaging in sex for the purpose of reproducing/procreating without necessarily any regard for physical and mental intimacy, and without any regard for female orgasms [if they happen so be it as a bonus].

Here is a quote from an Xn emailer:
Quote:
Recreational sex should be outlawed because of the disastrous effects it has on all those involved and society at large. Enforcement of such laws should, as in the past, be judicious. No one wants police peeking into people's windows, but the moral suasion of law and the potential for prosecution both serve important socio-cultural functions to minimize this immoral scourge that degrades and debases women and civilization.
This is a serious email, not a joke. The Xn actually thinks recreational sex is immoral and should be outlawed.

Do any other members of/visitors to the SecWeb agree that recreational sex is immoral? That it should be outlawed?

This christian seems to recognize that these laws cannot be enforced as it would necessarily violate any privacy because they are consensual acts. The government to enforce this law would have to actually install a camera in every room of every building, and maybe also in public places too. And everytime someone had sex they would have to show that they are knowingly fertile and ready to have children. Proving this is not the case is practically impossible.

His view that recreational sex is immoral is in effect subjective. No law should be passed.

Doubtful, I know I sure as hell don't.

The main problem with such a ridiculous argument is this:

Quote:
Recreational sex should be outlawed because of the disastrous effects it has on all those involved and society at large.
Quite an absurd assertion, poor in reason. There are millions of cases, I'm sure, of recreational sex with no negative outcomes. Just because recreational sex has some kind of outstanding effect on a certain amount of people does not mean it should be outlawed. What about the Swinging societies? I'd venture to say that recreational sex has been largely accepted and practiced throughout all of human history, only, now, since the 60's, we have seen a large outcry of publicity on the matter. What with STDs, the rise in single parent homes and all, people seem to now hold a view that is pro-abstinence. This view is absurd, for it does not take into careful consideration that it is widely possible for society to practice recreational sex without any side effects as long is one is educated on contraceptives and STD prevention. The question at hand has largely to do with education and responsibility, nothing else. Besides...

Quote:
...this immoral scourge that degrades and debases women and civilization.
I don't see this as a problem which can solely be resolved by eliminating recreational sex from the picture. As I said, it's largely to do with responsibility and education. I wouldn't think that true recreational sex holds any kind of side effect as to degrading and debasing women, if both partners are willing. No one forces women into consenting recreational sex, and if this widespread propaghanda against recreational sex was eliminated I think that it would cease to be much of a problem at all.

What you want to look at as far as morality goes is, does this act cause unneccessary harm to another? And... Does this act have no social redeming value whatsoever? Of course, if you're looking from the rape perspective, I'd hold that it does not meet either criteria, but as far as casual sex, I think it seems to hold both.

Oxygen should be outlawed because of the disastrous effects it has on all those involved and society at large. It is a toxin that poisons the brain and body. Reducing exposure to oxygen slows the aging process, slows the spread of disease, and lengthens life. Enforcement of such a law should, as in the past, be judicious. No one wants police peeking into people's windows to see if they are breathing, but the moral suasion of law and the potential for prosecution both serve important socio-cultural functions to minimize this caustic scourge that degrades and debases human life and civilization.

I for one am disgusted, DISGUSTED I tell you, by recreational sex. Marital sex is nauseating enough, but at least after that Jebus caresses my violated, supine form until I am filled with His love and have to praise His name. "Oh Jebus!" I cry out to my Lord and Master. "Until I taste of your flesh and drink of your fluids, I can never be fulfilled."
