David: I believe that you are approaching science as an idealist. Science has numerous divergent viewpoints and there are some matters of dispute which scientists may never resolve.
Please do give examples.

But even if what you are saying is true the fact remains that science is by and large convergent and religion is the opposite.

In typical style you tackle the insignificant in order to avoid the heart of the issue.

Please explain to us unbelievers why Chrisitanity started to diverge almost immediately after it was created. It got to the point where people started killing each other in the streets about who held the true faith. Then someone by the name of Constantine impose his view of true Christianity. For a millenium any heretic was, shall we say ... eliminated. Then came the protestant reform and with it more divergence. Let a thousand flowers bloom. Today in the US alone there are thousands of Christian groups.

So, David, why does it require total dictatorship and physical punishment in order to keep Christianity as one.

Compared to this science is amazingly convergent. The contrast is striking. I understand why you wish to avoid this subject.

But even if you don't want to touch the subject at hand please do give examples of divergences in science which may never be resolved.

Then, this must be true eloquence.

First, I never said that there were presently no matter of divergence among scientists. What I did say is that science tends to converge with time. So this statement does not address the issue.

Second, you say that there are matters which may never converge. "MAY" is the key word here. The fact is that you do not know. You are therefore speculating on possible divergence.

Third, since you are speculating about possible divergence you do not have any examples of growing divergence over time which is what I am talking about.

Fourth, you failed to address the state of Chrisitanity which has shown GROWING divergence from its inception.

Fifth, you allude to things without giving examples and pretend that you have made a point.

Now this is eloquence!!!!

Good evening David Mathews,

I just want you to know I intend to reply to your reply to my two earlier posts. I have had a very awkward work schedule (and doctor visits) this past week and need to rest. You may look for my reply probably either late Sunday or sometime Monday.

Thank you and I wish you and your loved ones the best.

Disagreements in science are about such minor things as whether an atom is a probability or a constant, whether evolution happened over time or in short bursts, how many billions of years old the universe is, and other things you couldn't really try discussing without a long period of study. There is no disagreement over the size and shape of the Earth, the forces of gravity and electromagnetism, whether the Sun is a star, and so many things that have already been concluded.

Disagreements in Christianity are about whether it's "Jesus" or "Jesu", whether the Catholic Church knows everything, whether Jesus was/is God, whether the Mormons' holy text is inspired or not, and many other rather important things that any random person can have an opinion on. They cannot be easily resolved because they are matters of faith.

In conclusion, science converges on a single set of facts and explanations, and religion diverges as people squabble over the Way They Know It Really Is.

David Matthews,

Well David, this is the second thread in which you have totally failed to respond to my points.

In other words, no news to report.

But seriously...David hasn't been online for a couple of days. This is rather out of character for him. I'm wondering if he's all right.

Diana,

I was thinking the same thing and hope David is alright. David, when you are able to join this discussion again email me and I will post my rebuttal as promised.

As far as I have been made aware, David Mathews is doing just fine and dandy - he'll just be away from the computer for a while.
