Not quite so reassuring......
That is assuming on your part that I tought them that there is indeed and without any doubt a " Lake of fire". The rest of my post should have given you more clues to avoid that assumption.

I agree with Amos....but it is Ok to get misty eyes over one of those tear jerkers. My kids tease me still today over crying during a commercial!

Sabine,
Sometimes I have a truce with her that even lasts a couple of months at a time. She seems normal.

The last time the truce was broken I had to call the police. She had psychotic looking eyes and kept repeating "EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW ON JUDGMENT DAY!" .. even to the cops.. I mean, like Yikes! It went on for a long time, she was like a parrot.

She doesn't behave like she has any psychosis during our truce times. We can get along real well.

Oh I read it.

I did teach my kids though that if mom dies they will be with her again. It makes them less fearful to face the death of a beloved one.
Exactly.

You told them that not because it was in any sense true but because it would make them feel better.

An emotional crutch is still an emotional crutch no matter how pretty.

And these crutches tend to come with a burden.

Am I good enough?

Have I done the right thing?

Do I avoid the eternal lake of fire?

Fuck that.

Just tell me what suit to wear.

I still vote for the blue suit, mullets are ok, and no panties! The only wool I want to see is...
Well you get the picture.

Very well put. :notworthy

I have seen no evidence, only conjecture and heresay. Now the possiblity of god(s) is quite another matter. I do not discount the possiblity of god(s) any more than I discount the possiblity of life on other planets. The question is, "Where's the beef?" I have yet to see any evidence for either.

My jab with the Felix diety is to make the point that my own manufactured diety is just as valid given the evidence (discounting the inertia of generational story telling) as any other god(s). Threats of eternal fire and damnation have zero affect on me.

Have you ever considered smelling roses ? or whichever grows freely on the pavement of London.....

Well since you are a Scott, I would suggest a Royal Stuart kilt.... and I need not to know if you wear any underwear.

I understand the emotinal crutch issue... however, my kids were not taught that they needed to earn heaven in any way. So they are not going to be performers who seek perfection. Hopefuly they will give others as much grace as I told them to give themselves.
I polluted them quite a bit when I was still into the fundie trend...fortunatly ,years of not dwelling on doctrine anylonger has restored in them a sense of accepting themselves.
PS : can you also add a bit of blue paint on your cheeks and forehead to reinforce the Wallace's look? Granted he never wore a royal stuart kilt but that was mentionned to aknowledge the true scottish identity ( War of the Roses like....)
