Some of you may remember that a while back I was asking about miniature sunflowers - I f i n a l l y got some seeds to sprout (the ones I had before were duds - I got some more from walmart and they sprouted in like 3 days and the others weren't doing anything after 2 weeks
![]() They're miniature sunflowers, the packet says they'll grow 32-36 inches high. The pot is 8 inches in diameter and 5 inches deep. There are 3 seedlings, right now they're about 1/2 - 3/4 of an inch high. There are also about 4 or 5 pansy seeds scattered around in there. Is this pot big enough for all of those flowers, or will I have problems? |

I've started some seeds in peat pots and they're growing like crazy! It's so exciting to me.
The seed packet usually says how far apart the plants should be--that would be the best thing to look at. What variety is your sunflower? I have some at home that are minis, I think they are called Teddy Bear? I'll check. I would think that you will need a bigger pot. BUT, I don't know--just my two cents. --tibac |

The problem will be the root systems. The pansies have sallow roots, so it might not matter if you have one growing in there, but the sunflower and pansies probably would do better if the sunflowers each have individual pots and the five pansies are grown in an another pot.

all right, thanks.
looks like two of the sunflower seedlings will have to go - getting more pots isn't a problem, but I only have the one grow light and a window, but I don't think that will be enough sun for 3 pots, especially given my limited space, being in a dorm room and all. I'll pull two of the seedlings and remove the pansy seeds (they haven't sprouted yet, and I have more) and if I get my grubby hands on another pot, I'll plant some pansies ![]() now... which two seedlings to pull... ![]() |

If you haven't already pulled your seedlings, it might be worthwhile to wait until they have actual leaves. Then pick the strongest looking one, and cut the other two off (that way you don't have to disturb the roots).
It shouldn't hurt to wait that much longer. ![]() ![]() I'm sorry that you have to get rid of some of your baby plants. --tibac |
