I would hope you could help your children know how to recognize a hate-driven ideology. So that even if in some teenage rebellious time they were drawn to it, they would see it for what it is relatively quickly and not stay with it for the longer-term.

Middlesbrough must have changed a lot since you left Helen. I can't remember the last time I saw a child that was legal.

What would you do if your teenager became a Christian?
I'd discuss it with them if they wanted to, and I wouldn't if they didn't.

IMO Being a parent of teenagers is about supporting your kids, not shaping them.

dibble.

PS: I wouldn't be happy though!

I agree dibble. By the time they're teenagers any "shaping" should have been mostly done. You may have to do a little "fine tuning" hehe but they should be close to the point where they can make reasonable choices. If not could it not be the case that they may be rebelling against you as a parent?

Yes, in some ways this would be the perfect rebellion I.e. not physically harmful but guaranteed to totally piss off their father!

And when we as parents do get pissed off have they (our children) not gained the upper-hand? We tend to react to the situation instead of acting in what should be a reasonable fashion. Of course I'm not saying anger is inappropriate but when I think of being "pissed off" I generally see myself as saying or doing something that I later regret.

Helen, I guess I'm just reserving this spot; my longish post apparently got eaten by the goblin responsible for that "SL"/"M" confusion. I'll try re-compose it later over the weekend.

You're reserving it? lol I think it would be ok if you posted further down the thread, should someone else venture over here but...maybe there are some nuances to this I'm missing...

Anyway, I hate when that happens to me (posts are eaten). Especially since I try to remember to CTRL-C my long posts just in case, these days, and yet I still forget at times. I think my first long reply to you on this thread got eaten this time by the fiend that likes smilies so much he eats all posts with over 8 in them, leaving no trace...I've had problems with that one regularly

(I can't think why though)

I'll try re-compose it later over the weekend.

By the way, a condensed version of your key insights would be ok with me if that's quicker

love

Okay:

1.) I'm right. Everybody else is wrong.
2.) There will be a test covering this on Friday.
