Post For Australian boardmembers

Greetings!

For any of you that didn't catch Catalyst last night (and shame on you!), at the end of the programme they previewed next Thursday's stories. Although they didn't nominate the particular fossil in question, their lead story next week is about the furore that a feathered dinosaur fossil is causing, particularly with respect to the creationist argument *sneezebullshitsneeze* about transitionals.

They showed a snippet of one high priest of wilful ignorance (Gish, I suspect) blathering on as part of the story.

Should be worth a look!!

Cheers,
Prax

I will catch it, but I don't like the style of catalyst. Unless it is doing a whole episode special, it goes in too much for the news grab.

I miss quantum.

I am in complete agreement - I too miss Quantum. On the up-side, at least Aunty replaced it with something. It could have been worse.

In any case, sure it's going to be a short grab - but interesting nonetheless.

Cheers,
Prax

Well bloody hello and welcome. Why don't you introduce yourself in the introductions forum and tell us about thyself? We can always use more Australians on the internet.

I noticed that myself and was wondering why they were interviewing a creationist on a science program.

But it will definitely be worth a look, I think, just to see how the ABC deals with the issue.

Why wouldn't they interveiw a creationist? If the media completely ignores the cretins, they have already won.

They can then run around screaming "evolutionists control the media as WELL as the science journals! Our alternative theory is being unfairly discriminated against!" and no-one will point out where they are wrong.

Innerduce meself? Geez, that might mean stepping out of the comfort zone.

Mostly I'm a lurker on fora such as this; I read and learn, but don't know enough (yet) to make any meaningful contribution. So, until such time as I do know enough, I'll continue to lurk.

(I only broke my silence because I thought others here who hadn't seen it may like to know about it.)

In light of your assertion about the paucity of Oz folk online, perhaps I will make the introduction.

Cheers,
Prax

If they had no media coverage, they would not be a threat.

I have no problem with them being on opinion programs and religion programs and such like. But to put them on a science program gives the impression that they are as credible as the scientists.

Imagine if creation science organisations got to have programs that they made aired on ABC television as scientific documentaries. Would you be so accepting then?

I would be very disturbed, personally.

Well I don’t know about youse, but I hardly ever come across Creationists. Even to the Christians they’re more or less “out there” with the Hari Krisnas.

I can’t even remember whether Aunty broadcasts An Hour Of Power on Sunday mornings or not anymore, but media coverage or not, it depends entirely on the tone of the report & I can’t see any of the major broadcasters here taking Creationism too seriously.

In fact over here where their scarcity renders them harmless, I regard them quite affectionately, a sign of Australia’s pluralism that we even have a place for the trogolodyte lunatic fringe.
