Default Tell me what you think of this!

WASHINGTON — Six members of Congress live in a million-dollar Capitol Hill townhouse that is subsidized by a secretive religious organization, tax records show.

This secretive group sponsors the National Prayer Breakfast. It also sponsors a lot of networking among Christians and national and international leaders.

It has been mentioned in previous threads:

"Fellowship"---Christian Powerhouse

In particular, check out the Harper's Magazine article referenced in that thread:

Thumbs down

From the article:

Quote:
''My living arrangements are totally appropriate and within the House rules,'' [Rep. Mike] Doyle [D-Pa] said.
The fact that Representative Doyle mentions propriety and compliance with the House rules separately speaks volumes about the House rules.

some links in my post that i didn't complete.....

I believe it was Harpers about 2 mos ago (they don't seem to have a search feature or archive online.)
There was a really interesting story about them back in 2000 that I had found.

Scary thing is, there are several threads covering just a few of this group's activities and this is the first thread i've seen tying two of them together.

These are the National Prayer Breakfast sponsors. They fund foreign leaders and arrange access for them. They are bald faced liars "The organization doesn't get any special access to me..." one of the idiots who -lives- in their house.
The leader is a secretive bastard who is like invisible jerry falwell. They appear to have ENORMOUS influence.
Senators Don Nickles (R., Okla.), Charles Grassley (R., Iowa), Pete Domenici (R., N.Mex.), John Ensign (R., Nev.), James Inhofe (R., Okla.), Bill Nelson (D., Fla.), and Conrad Burns (R., Mont.) are referred to as "members," as are Representatives Jim DeMint (R., S.C.), Frank Wolf (R., Va.), Joseph Pitts (R., Pa.), Zach Wamp (R., Tenn.), and Bart Stupak (D., Mich.).

ok. found links.
Harpers articleJesus Plus Nothing

There was also an npr story on them, an interview with the author of Jesus Plus Nothing. Unfortunately i can't find it at the moment.

(As a side note, anyone got a list of current congressmen's stated religion?)

The leader of the fellowship / family seems to be "Doug Coe"
Elder Bush seems to dig him
And again
Quote:
And this breakfast is the result of years of quiet diplomacy -- I wouldn't say secret diplomacy -- quiet diplomacy by an ambassador of faith, Doug Coe. And I salute him.
-- George H. Bush

more crap about the breakfastread this one sitting down.

There is a little known, but highly influential group in Washington called, "The Fellowship Foundation," headed by the illusive Doug Coe.
So, does "illusive" mean that he's deceitful, or that his presence is just a trick of the light?

Perhaps Mr. Fundy reporter was trying to tell us something ... or perhaps he should put down the bible and pick up the flippin' dictionary!!

I can remember one cold February morning in years past when my wife had to literally put her hand on my shoulder to prevent me from standing and thundering a prophetic denunciation of sanctimony by a man whose sophomoric Oval Office sins humiliated our nation.
Funny, I don't remember the guy with the "sophomoric sins" ever having virtually every nation in the world turn against him. The only thing humilating was what the Republicans did to our country to root out that "sophomoric sin."
