Question About Toad Tadpoles
The other day, I got some toad eggs from the pond in my backyard, and put them in a bottle with water from the pond and some sticks and algae. This morning (1½ days after getting the eggs), I noticed that the eggs had taken the shape of tadpoles, but were not moving, even those that were attached to the gel and not inside of it. I replenished the pond water with more pond water, got some more eggs, a different stick, and some algae (which is at the top of the bottle)...merely because I wanted to raise some tadpoles for a while...
So, are tadpoles supposed to be basically paralyzed for the first day while they're still young, or are they just dying from being couped up in a plastic bottle? |

Well, if you're sealing the bottle, it's possible that you're basically suffocating the tadpoles. I don't know offhand if tadpoles are supposed to be moving during those early stages of development.

Okay...Now the tadpoles that are separated from the goo are sitting at the bottom of the bottle with the goo, twitching occasionally...Any idea whether or not that's supposed to happen?

You need to oxygenate the water with a small airpump set to low preferably with an air rock.
Also you need to let the temperature cycle if you are keeping it indoors. Don't change the water until they are froglets and after that only 10% at a time. |

I set them free after I knew that they were able to swim around. I was worried that the huge amount of geese that swim in that pond would eat them.
