Post Congressman DeLay Criticized for 'Only Christianity' Remarks

Quote:
House Majority Whip Tom DeLay (R-Tex.) told evangelical Christians last week that only Christianity offers a reasonable answer to basic questions about the purpose of life.

Speaking to about 300 people at the First Baptist Church of Pearland, Tex., on April 12, DeLay said that God is using him to promote "a biblical worldview" in American politics, and that he pursued Bill Clinton's impeachment in part because the Democratic president held "the wrong worldview."

Is DeLay admitting that Clinton was the victim of religious persecution?

Damn, politicans are the lowest of the low!

If the Republicans keep a majority in the House this fall, this nut DeLay becomes majority leader. As majority leader, he will be next in line to be Speaker when Hastert retires. At that point DeLay will be second in line for the presidency.

Uh, sex, drugs, and rock and roll? 60's counter-culture Eastern establishment elitism?

I don't think any of the religious right have dealt with the fact that Clinton was a Baptist, and Al Gore was a Bible-reading Christian of some denomination.

Toto,

Do you not agree that if Clinton claims to be a Bible-believing Baptist then he is a hypocrite? I think that the religious right has no problems admitting he is a hypocritical Baptist. Do you?

I'd say the religious right are the hypocrites. They're perfectly willing to forgive youthful indiscretions (even middle-aged indiscretions) on the part of politicians who agree with their conservative agenda.

I thought Christians weren't supposed to be perfect, just forgiven.

And what about Al Gore? He and his wife read the Bible for insight into their campaign strategy. I don't see the religious right paying tribute to his faith.

They used the DeLay story on NPRs quiz game this morning. They certainly thought that his being kicked out of school for his partying was a joke.

Actually they just made a lot of fun of him.

Toto,

You still haven't answered the question: do you think that President Clinton is a hypocritical Baptist?
