wow! now THAT is interesting! I'm always having weird dreams of the future. I'll be doning something and I'll know what is about to happen. I freak alot of people out as I tell them what is about to happen in great detail and it does. I have no control over these things! wow. "
My reply : Bad move. You will only frightened others and distance yourself in the end, I know ... been there althroughtout my teenager period. You may wanna constraint what you say or you will end up hurting yourself. By Bible Humper "I advise you to practice with cantrips before you go messing around with this too much. Work your way up to at least Polymorph self, then explore the Astral plane. " My reply : What is Polymorph self? |

Ax,
How about applying some science to this newfound ability? You could easily design an experiment that would help you determine if you are actually leaving your body or are experiencing some kind of altered state. For example, if you could enlist the help of a friend, you could try the following: Before "projecting" yourself have your friend go into another room and write a number between 0 and 10,000. Don't let the friend tell you what the number is. Then astrally project yourself into the next room and go look at the number. Come back to your body and tell your friend the number you saw. If you are really projecting yourself, you should have no trouble with this task. If you are just entering some altered state, then you will not be able to see the number. Good luck to you! Grizzly |

Well, I've never experienced anything like it, but I have, and do, from time to time, experience a mode of near-sleepiness, in which I manage to visualize things at will very accurately, without the fuzzier feelings I have in dreams. Now, if my mind wondered (not literally, silly!), and I started imagining the top of my house, it could be tantamount to astral projection of sorts, as far as the experience goes.
Anyway, it's pretty easy to devise an experiment that tests for this if you people are _really_ interested, even a double-blind one. Alas, it seems that, when it comes to experiment and hands-on inquiry, these "mysteries" fade away, sometimes into the realm of statistical error, sometimes into the realm of "skeptics disturb the force." |

Anyone really interested in this should look up some stuff on lucid dreaming. I've experienced it a few times as well, and it is pretty damn cool if you ask me.
Basically it's a state of mind somewhere between dreamsleep and consciousness, where you retain the projection capabilities of your mind in dreamsleep but are able to control them to some degree (as opposed to dreaming, where it's more like watching a movie). A psychology prof of mine a few years ago told us quite a bit about it, though I can't remember the details. It is documented pretty well though I understand. He mentioned a case of one woman who was able to induce this pretty much whenever she liked. Quite a nice ability He also quite convincingly explained how this and other similar states of mind (like sleep paralysis: like a lucid dream except you can't move. Imagine how friggin scary that would be to anyone who didn't know what was going on. Imagine an evil monster pinning you down and *poof* there it is) were responsible for a great number of superstitious (and I suppose today pseudoscientific) beliefs, from demons and succubi to mystical experiences to alien abductions. One night I multiple episodes of sleep-paralysis. Every time I tried to fall back asleep - BOOM! Voices. Paralysis. Really spooky. And then, when I finally got to sleep - lucid dreaming. Very surprising for one such as me who rarely remembers any of his dreams.
Fortunately, I had read about sleep paralysis before. Otherwise, I would have been extremely freaked out! Jamie |
