Default Anyone seen the movie 'Pi'?

well, i just watched it.

all i have to say is "wow, what a mind-fuck that was".

i mean, im still trying to understand it. the whole 216 digit code relating to the spiral, existence, the tora, the stock market was confusing enough. but max's anxiety attacks (i think that's what they were anyway) and his weird hallucinations made the movie both entertaining and confusing.

i still dont get it, and i dont think i ever will, but what's the deal with pi and the spiral, and other things like that 'go' game and that conversation about euclid becoming aware of itself???

wow, i dont think ill be sleeping tonight. :banghead:

edit: i just realized, this may be better suited for media & pop. culture?

I love that movie. I want to buy it on DVD.

Yeah, his panic attacks and hallucinations were some of the best scenes. The freakiest scene was the self-lobotomy, no doubt.

Wink

premise one: this thread is about a movie
premise two: movies are a media/popular culture topic
conclusion: this thread belongs in media and popular culture.

behold my impeccable logic!

Yeah, really cool movie. Although as far as I can tell most of the maths is just made up. The thing about the spirals is something to do with the "golden number" which is [1 + sqrt(5)]/2 , I think. This is commonly known as phi. I don't think that pi was involved anywhere, but I'd say the movie was called that because it's a pretty famous number.

Watching the guy poke a brain with a stick was it for me; I ended the movie shortly afterwards.

It's been a few years but I thought the coolest thing about Pi was the black and white visuals and the whole mood of the movie. Instead of just being about characters, it totally drew the viewer in..........

the first person i watched it with left the room... but i loved it. that was a couple years ago.

i tried to get my wife into it. she's a sorta mathematician (being a high school math teacher). she liked it, except for the panic attacks. she's the type who can't watch fight scenes, so the attacks were kinda rough on her...

the soundtrack rocked!

My wife and I rented it one night in an effort to enhance our appreciation of indie cinema.

Ehhh.

Didn't really care for it. It had a bit of a "James Redfield" feel to it that kinda put me off.

It seemed like the screenwriter developed a cool premise that he really didn't know how to develop into a story.

We rented it mainly because the soundtrack was composed by a member of Pop Will Eat Itself (darn, I miss the Poppies). I liked it up until the drill scene. *eeeeh* *shudder*
